UPMC Jameson is hiring a regular part time Telephone Operator. The position requires availability to work all days and shifts including daylight, afternoon, midnight, weekends and holidays.

Purpose:  To facilitate effective communication for our patients, staff, and community.

Description:  The Telephone Operator answers inbound calls from internal and external callers and processes calls by transferring to appropriate department, assists staff and patients with outbound calls, monitors alarm system, dispatches Security, and activates emergency response for internal emergencies.


  • Answer all inbound calls and transfer to appropriate department
  • Assist staff and patients with outbound calls
  • Monitor alarm systems
  • Activate emergency response for internal emergencies
  • Dispatch Security upon request
  • Maintain knowledge of equipment, systems, processes, and procedures
  • Maintain scheduling flexibility to assist with staffing and call off coverage


  • Ability to adhere to all departmental and systemwide policies and procedures
  • Possess strong customer services skills as well as critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work all shifts/days, including midnight shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to work independently, as well as, in a team setting



High school graduate or equivalent. 1 year of experience answering and processing calls through automated phone system or 1 year of customer service experience. Must be able to work all shifts, 7 days a week. Ability to interpret procedure manuals (i.e., fire, trouble, disaster, etc.).
