Description

UPMC Hamot Special Procedures is currently hiring a Surgical Scheduling Coordinator to join their team!  This position will work Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. or 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Purpose:
To assure the smooth functioning of OR and Holding Area Communication Centers. To schedule surgical cases and adjust schedules as necessary to assure a smooth running schedule.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Maintains daily communication with Supervisor/OR Unit Director
  • Works independently in OR Communication Center, working with physicians, RNs other staff members and other medical center departments to assure the smooth flow of patients; adjusting OR schedules when necessary and providing secretarial support as required. (Scheduling add-onon/urgent cases for Main OR and Women's Hospital OR, notifying appropriate staff of such, calling nursing units to prepare patients for surgery, sending for patients for surgery, paging PCA's to assist as needed.) Keeps OR Communication board up to date with patient arrivals, patient in room and add-on cases. Answers phones, screening calls and directing messages.
  • Chooses and prints appropriate preference cards for daily procedures.
  • Schedules and confirms surgical procedures, ensuring accurange organization of surgical schedule.
  • Communicate changes in schedule with appropriate departments
  • Provides back up coverage for Data entry clerk and post case auditors
  • Communicate with physician offices related to scheduling process
  • Prints schedule and distributes to appropriate departments.

 

Qualifications

Must be a high school graduate or equivalent Two years of experience in a similar clinical support position, preferably in an OR setting

Must have a thorough knowledge of medical terminology; basic PC skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Word. .
