Part-Time Patient Care Technicians - Oakland and Shadyside

Description

Are you interested in a new, or continuing, career in the healthcare field that provides plenty of opportunity for growth and development? UPMC Presbyterian and UPMC Shadyside are currently hiring part-time nursing support staff for a variety of shifts and days. 

Nursing support staff typically work rotating 12-hour shifts. A part time role typically requires 20-24 hours per week and will either be 2 12-hour shifts, or 1 12-hour shift and 1 8-hour shift. With an excellent benefits package, multiple shifts available, and competitive wages, we encourage you to apply and learn more today!

All hired candidates will be required to attend a 7 day mandatory training course. This course is held during weekdays and daylight hours. All 7 days are mandatory and are scheduled in a structured classroom setting. Even though this position is part-time, the first two weeks of training will be full-time hours, and all candidates must be able to accommodate this schedule. 


Responsibilities:

• Assisting patients with activities of daily living including assisting with bathing, dressing and other hygiene needs
• The PCT provides routine patient care and support services in accordance with established policies and procedures, and may be directed by the nurse or physician, to assure that the highest degree of quality patient care is maintained at all times.
• Interacting and attending to patients and their families on a regular basis, to ensure patient satisfaction 
• Working hand in and hand with the nursing staff to report any changes in the patients well-being or changes in their conditions
• Working directly with patients to re-position and assist them in and out of beds, bedside chairs, and wheelchairs, as well as on and off patient carriers (with assistance as needed). 
• Performing basic clinical skills such as weighing patients, taking blood pressures/pulses/respirations, collecting and measuring specimen
• Helping patients to walk with canes, walkers, and crutches. 
• Transporting patients, by pushing them in wheelchairs or on carts, to and from tests and other units. 
• Depending upon the role, a PCT may also perform several advanced skills such as drawing blood, performing EKGs (heart monitor tracings), changing simple wound dressings, removing bladder catheters, and removing IV catheters from veins.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required
  • Applicants without previous hospital experience who are hired will be provided, and required to successfully complete a training course.
  • This mandatory course is held over 7 consecutive weekdays during daylight hours. Candidates must be available to attend all days in full. 

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
• CPR within 30 days of beginning employment
• Act 34 Criminal Clearance
• Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
