This is a Casual/ Per Diem position. Shifts will Vary.

Responsibilities:

  • Observes the activities of all nursing assistants assigned to area of responsibility. Guides, teaches and develops nurse aides to ensure safe, quality care for geriatric residents and other residents of various ages. Monitors Certified Nurse Aids activity and reports non-compliant acts to RN Supervisor immediately for correction.
  • Anticipates and takes action to maintain a safe environment. Incorporates safety/risk management standards into daily work practices. Uses all safety equipment provided appropriately. Reports faulty equipment/problems immediately.
  • Provides resident/significant other health teaching as delegated by and observed by the RN.
  • Reports any suspected or known resident abuse to Director of Nursing or Administrator immediately.
  • Administers medication and treatments accurately, observing resident response, as evidenced by documentation in the medical record and lack of negative outcomes. Monitors I.V. sites and administers I.V. meds through peripheral lines if LPN has basic I.V. certification.
  • Documents all aspects of resident?s care as accurately, concisely, and promptly as per state and federal requirements.- Contributes to the development of the resident/significant other plan of care based on the identified resident problems/needs.- Assists in the evaluation of the effectiveness of the nursing care administered relative to the resident/significant other identified problems/needs.
  • Maintains and coordinates communication among resident/significant other, staff, and physician as evidenced within medical record, client, and health care team feedback.- Assists in assuring that effective communication exists with resident/ significant other as reflected in the plan of care.- Gives punctual change of shift report consisting of pertinent and relevant information for assigned residents.- Effectively communicates residents changing needs and plan of care among staff members.- Reports residents needs/problems and observations regarding residents condition to the registered nurse and physician.- Attends physician rounds on assigned residents and communicates observations - regarding resident?s condition.- Reports resident abuse immediately to supervisor; takes corrective action.
  • Maintains confidentiality of resident information at all times.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of all policies and procedures and ability to reference them from appropriate books and manuals.
  • Safely administers quality skilled care in compliance with nursing policies and procedures, physician orders, and to provide external regulatory requirements for established plan of care.
  • Reports for work as scheduled and consistently demonstrates dependability and punctuality.
  • Maintains optimum nursing practice through participation in internal and external training enrichment programs geared toward geriatric residents and residents of various ages.
  • Assists in the orientation/training of new nursing personnel.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement Committee, Safety Committee, etc., as needed.
  • Participates in staff development programs by:- Attending scheduled staff meetings and mandatory in-services.- Assisting with staff meetings and mandatory in-services.- Obtaining information discussed and incorporating the new information into practice.

 

Qualifications

The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure individuals either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption by Jan. 27. For individuals who choose an mRNA vaccine, a second dose of Pfizer or Moderna must be received by Monday, Feb. 28, or within the designated timeframe after your first dose is received. 

While the deadlines have passed, it’s not too late to get your first shot or request a medical or religious exemption. We each play a part in reaching 100% in our COVID-19 vaccination efforts.

  • Current Licensure as Licensed Practical Nursing in Pennsylvania or temporary practice permit required.
  • Minimum one-year experience in long term care or other clinical nursing experience preferred.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 34
  • OAPSA
