We are searching for an Instructional/Curriculum Designer to join our UPMC Corporate Learning & Development Team.  If you are a creative person, preferably with visual design experience, then this may be the perfect fit for you!

The Instructional/Curriculum Designer is a regular, full-time position that works daylight hours, Monday through Friday, in a hybrid work model.

In this role, the Instructional/Curriculum Designer utilizes instructional design/evaluation and instructional-technology expertise to create and implement efficient and effective self-paced learning solutions.  They'll also work closely with our instructors to design and brand UPMC training presentations that are used for both virtual and in-person trainings.

  • Maintain awareness of current LMS functionality as it relates to delivery of web-based training.
  • Maintain and improve the effectiveness of existing training and development and/or evaluation programs.
  • Use instructional design/evaluation and instructional-technology expertise to design efficient and effective learning and performance solutions, intervention tools, and evaluation tools (e.g., training programs, e-learning solutions, work-flow processes, job aids, etc.) based on standard industry protocol, such as the ISD model, the ADDIE process, and/or Kirkpatrick evaluation.
  • Collaborate with business partners by making recommendations on revisions to existing training programs and providing suggestions for new programs.
  • Maintain awareness of current web-course authoring tool capabilities.
  • Review and make recommendations to enhance clearly written scripts, narratives, and storyboards.
  • Design effectively for several different delivery methods, including online, and uses blended approaches where appropriate to enhance or improve job performance and increase productivity.
  • Develop pre- and post-training assessments to ensure mastery of learning objectives, on-the-job performance, and organizational/business impact.
  • Communicate frequently and effectively with various project collaborators to ensure that goals and objectives are being fulfilled.
  • Provide periodic reports on course development projects.
  • Design and produce effective online courses under the direction of the lead instructional curriculum designer.



  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Training and Development, Curriculum and Instruction, Adult Education, or related field and a minimum of one year of experience developing web-based training.
    • OR High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of three years of experience developing web-based training.
  • Solid knowledge of instructional design principles, instructional technologies, performance-based learning, and adult learning principles.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office applications and ability to learn new technology rapidly.
  • Course authoring and desktop publishing software experience required.
  • Adobe Photoshop and/or Adobe Illustrator preferred.
  • Visual design experience is strongly preferred.
