Oversee all aspects of the admission process for both internal and external admissions for the comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation program. Gather information about potential patients and complete assessments for admission in collaboration with the rehabilitation physicians and rehab coordinators. Initiate and complete required forms. Assist with referral development and marketing.



  • Coordinate the Rehab admission process, adhering to Medicare regulations and other third-party payor requirements and prepare, submit, and review monthly and quarterly referral, admission, and denial statistics.
  • Educate patients and significant others, referral sources, staff and physicians of the benefits of the programs, services and admission requirement for comprehensive Inpatient Rehab
  • Act as an ambassador for UPMC and treat everyone with dignity and respect.
  • Assist with marketing/sales and referral development for Inpatient Rehab admissions.
  • Negotiate admission approval with third-party payors.
  • Assume responsibility for personal development and education.
  • Know and follow all organizational/departmental policies/procedures.
  • Commit to high quality, safe work; encourage others to have similar standards. Identify processes/systems that could lead to inefficient practices, unsafe conditions, errors or adverse events. Avoid shortcuts to ensure quality and safety measures are not circumvented. Encourage patient and family involvement in processes involving patient safety. Understand that patient safety is everyone's responsibility. Assume responsibility for personal education and performance related to patient safety; report unsafe conditions or events immediately; speak up in a non confrontational and educational manner when seeing a safety breech; develop or participate in a project or action plan to reduce risk or mitigate harm for patients, asappropriate.
  • Assist as requested with performing medical record chart audits to assure compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Assist the Rehab administrative team in formulating and communicating program mission, goals, objectives, and action plans.
  • Communicate the status of daily admissions to all involved staff and referring facilities.
  • Facilitate approval for inpatient comprehensive Rehab admissions by performing on-site and telephone pre-admission screenings and clinical assessments.
  • Assist with accurate completion of the Pre-Admission Screen.



Graduate of a diploma NLN accredited school of nursing, or Bachelors in Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, or Speech Pathology required. Profession whose practice act permits patient assessment required. 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting requiredThree

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
