The Senior Manager, Revenue cycle is responsible for the utilization of resources to deliver quality services to our customers and to contribute to the achievement of the organization's financial objectives. Combining the use of innovative service technologies with the values, mission and philosophy of UPMC is a primary responsibility for understanding, reviewing and monitoring all aspects of the hospital revenue cycle.The Senior Manager, Revenue Cycle is expected to demonstrate, through plans and actions, that there is a consistent standard of excellence to which all work is to conform. Such a standard should be based upon establishing and maintaining a constancy of purpose, focusing on continuous improvement within the Senior Manager's area of influence, and delivering the highest degree of quality service possible.The expertise of the Senior Manager, Revenue Cycle shall include: working knoweldge in the areas of patient access, customer service, billing and follow up, knowledge and understanding ofthe charge description master, managed care contractual terms and requiremens, credentialing,health insurance practices, industry regulatory requirements, wage and hour regulations, and basic accounting and budgeting.The Senior Manager, Revenue Cycle is expected to make a significant contribution to the organization's overall effectiveness. The Senior Manager shall demonstrate the philosphy and core values of UPMC in the performance of duties.


  • Maintains good relationships with administration and clinical leadership.
  • Direct and ongoing involvement in staff development, hiring and managing direct reports.
  • Ensure appropriate follow-up and resolution occurs.
  • Monitor and support daily staff functions in all areas related to scope of the Senior Manager's responsibility. Assess and respond to the organizational and customers' needs with innovative programs to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Develops and implements revenue cycle procedures and enhancements for all departments.
  • Works with payros as necessary to investigate and resolve issues.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with payors, entities and other outside professional organizations.
  • Ensure all protocols are being followed/met to ensure optimal revenue cycle/financial performance.
  • Participate on committees, as assigned.
  • Utilize the core values as the basis for management making them part of the recruitment, orientation and training for associates (respect, simplicity, integrity, inventiveness and custome services advocacy).
  • Complete or contribute to the completion of various financial forecasts, including cost center salary and direct expenses, month end key productivity indicators, cost center productivity, and any long range strategic plans.
  • Work closely with management to identify, develop and implement plan of action for all outstanding revenue related issues.
  • Performs ongoing financial analysis of third party billing and payment trends.



  • Education: Bachelors degree preferred in Business, Health or Public Administration; Nursing; Management or related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of five years experience in the healthcare field, preferably in a managerial position involving program development and coordination.
  • Skills Required: Demonstrated knoweldge of medical terminology and 3rd party payor requirements. Must possess exceptional communication, interpersonal and managerial skills. Effective critical thinking, decision-making, rpoblem solving, negotiating, financial aptitude and information management abilities are required. The ability to effectively implement quality improvement processes is also required. Must be an individual committed to the core values of the organization, who possesses the ability to influence others commitment to those values and practicese in the workplace. The incumbent must be able to effectively manage multiple priorities, while meeting customer expectations. Must exhibit skill in utilizing mainfame and PC computers. Strong analytical skills utilizing PC-based software application are required. Knowledge of systems management, accounts receivable management, utilization review, access/admissions, and billing processing is desirable to successfully meet job expectations.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Certified patient Accounts Manager (CPAM) as designated by the American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM) or Certified Healthcare Access manager (CHAM) as designated by the National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM) is preferred.
