This position is based in the US Steel Tower (Pittsburgh) with the opportunity to work from home three out of five days per week. The Manager may be responsible for occasional travel to other local UPMC facilities based upon business needs. This position works Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. 

The Manager, Supply Chain Strategic Data & Analytics is responsible for leading a team of Content Analysts who are responsible for processing and maintaining Item Master and other catalog content-related requests in accordance with established procedures and purchasing guidelines and controls. This individual's team will leverage various technical applications and skillsets to analyze purchase data, item master files, external vendor-hosted catalogs, and other data sets. This team is responsible for the administration of the contract management system, as well as ensuring contract compliance through price analysis of supplies, equipment, and services. The Manager is responsible for the development and implementation of standard master data processes for current and future customers. The Manager is also critical in the effort of streamlining and standardizing master data processes. This role needs to be a strong lead in the development and implementation of these standards. To be successful, the Manager must lead effectively in an environment that requires interaction between cross-functional skill sets, teams, and departments.


  • Partner with Service Line Managers and Procurement Managers to ensure cross-functional team support.
  • Identify opportunities for process and service improvements while supporting the implementation of said initiatives.
  • Oversee relationships with third-party vendors who provide purchased services to customers/clients.
  • Maintain technical knowledge and detailed documentation of all systems utilized to support content management.
  • Analyze contract and non-contract purchases, categorize actionable findings, determine content gaps in the Item Master and vendor catalogs to improve the content available to end-users, and increase contract compliance.
  • Manage Exchange EDI price exceptions in support of contract compliance and Supply Chain goals.
  • Maintain team responsibilities and standard operating procedures that are easily repeatable and scalable.
  • Manage all aspects of the contract data warehouse and its relationship to the Item Master including the daily process of uploading and optimizing content and organizing purchasing agreements/contracts.
  • Manage a team of Analysts charged with maintaining the item master database, internal catalogs, and external catalogs.
  • Diagnose item master inconsistencies and drive continuous improvement efforts to streamline master data processes.
  • Establish team and individual goals, manage staff performance using productivity measures, and produce quality reports documenting output.


  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science or related field and 5 years related experience or a combination of experience/education resulting in a sound understanding of job functions.
  • Understanding and functional knowledge of relational databases in Peoplesoft, Oracle, SAP, or similar system required.
  • High level of proficiency in computer skills related to automated purchasing applications and Microsoft Office software required. Emphasis on Excel formulas, spreadsheets, and presentation of data, including the maintenance of various product information files and creation of contract/pricing files for customers in various formats required. Advanced knowledge of Excel is essential and proficiency in MS Access is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and high-level problem-solving skills with the ability to present information in various formats required.

  • Ability to establish priorities and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Courtesy in dealing with all customers is required.
  • Must be able to provide clear consistent direction and guidance to other departments within Supply Chain Management.
  • The position requires self-sufficiency, initiative, strategic thinking, and subject matter expertise.
  • The position requires the ability to effectively source skills and manage personnel through both the implementation of process improvements and the ongoing day-to-day operations of the Content Enablement team.
