UPMC Hamot is looking for an Administrator on Duty to join the team! This position will work evening/ night shifts, including a 10% off-shift differential.
Purpose:
Accountable for proactively coordinating the activities of admission, discharge and transfer of patients thereby supporting throughput in the facility. Provides direction to department leaders to ensure safe levels of staffing while maintaining efficient hospital throughput. Serves as a resource for all staff and is able to apply competent knowledge and skills to achieve quality outcomes. Provides an interim leadership including but not limited to crisis management intervention as a representative of hospital administration. Channels pertinent patient/employee/department information to appropriate internal and external sources.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates interest in the development of others and positively impacts the lives of patients/families, peers, and members of the healthcare team through mentoring, education, and knowledge sharing
- Actively participates in the role of preceptor for student nurses, nurse interns, graduate and experienced nurses and assists with the development of new preceptors in their role.

- Seeks opportunities to share expertise with other members of the healthcare team within and beyond the clinical unit/department.
- Demonstrates good judgment and analytical ability to oversee and coordinate patient placement through facilitation of the Admission/Discharge/Transfer (ADT) process and collaborate with the physician and health care team.
- Uses critical thinking skills to effectively advise and direct health care providers in their delivery of patient care while maximizing the efficient use of resources.
- Identifies problems impacting effective hospital function and initiate corrective action independently and/or through contact with appropriate administrative persons including Risk Management, Legal Services, Patient Relations, Administrator, and/or the appropriate department director.
- Monitors and assists in maintaining a physical environment that supports patient, personnel, visitor safety; patient/family comfort; and staff efficiency.
- Utilizes research and evidence-based practice to support improvement including but not limited to capacity management: identifies research issues or articles related to improving patient throughput, discusses opportunities for quality improvement and actively pursues opportunities for change
- Coaches colleagues on cultural diversity and addresses workplace horizontal violence and impairment
- Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by building teams and relationships through mentoring and modeling uplifting and positive communication
- Demonstrates accountability to self and others for safe work hours, time management and healthy lifestyles

- Serves as a leader supporting hospital administration by identifying and resolving patient and staff focused opportunities for improvement

- Assesses, evaluates and provides direction to professional and non-professional staff in all departments regarding situations requiring immediate intervention.
- Demonstrates excellent communication and problem solving skills.
- Collaborates with physicians, departmental managers, and UPMC Hamot leaders to assure the highest standard of patient care in accordance with Hamot's mission.
- Collaborates with the Executive Vice President on call to make the determination to activate the HMC disaster plan and acts as the Disaster Coordinator until administrative support responds.
- Evaluates standards of care and standards of practice throughout Hamot Medical Center for professional nurses providing care.
- Interprets and ensures HMC policies and procedures assuring quality patient care meets departmental, professional and regulatory agency standards.
- Manages human resources necessary to provide patient care through supervising, mentoring, evaluating, counseling and recommending the termination for non-performing staff.
- Assures the correct placement of patients in accordance with clinical standards and admission guidelines.
- Establishes and continually evaluates the ethical and legal responsibilities associated with all activities of patient care.
- Assumes responsibility and accountability for reallocation of staff to provide safe patient care and optimal fiscal management.
- Acts as liaison to outside agencies and media.
- Demonstrates Hamot's commitment to Service Excellence by understanding the needs of patients, their families, physicians and co-workers and doing what is required the first time, every time by being responsible, sensitive, accurate, timely, coordinated and thorough.
- Coaches, mentors, and assesses competencies of all staff to enhance and support critical thinking skills.
- Maintains clinical skills to be able to function as a resource to hospital staff.
- Responds to RRT, Blue Teams, Trauma alerts and other emergencies on off shifts, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications
- BS/BSN required.
- If BS degree not in nursing, a Master's or higher degree in Nursing is required.
- CNL/MSN preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years progressive leadership experience required with relevant clinical experience preferred.
- Must maintain a solid/strong performer rating on annual performance review.
- Registered Nurse.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- ACLS preferredCPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
- Must be licensed to practice in the State of Pennsylvania.
- Must be Trauma certified within one year of accepting the position and maintain eight hours of Trauma education annually.ACLS within 1 year of hire or transfer into position
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
