The System Nurse Manager is a professional nurse who is part of the System Leadership Team. This position is responsible for performing a critical role related to clinical plans, clinical quality, care, cost, and clinical process standardization across all UPMC Pinnacle-related sites in the assigned department. Management and leadership responsibilities include system, processes, materials, fiscal and human resources. Supporting, counseling, and empowering department clinical staff are key functions in the clinical guidelines for wound care and hyperbaric medicine.This position ensures compliance to all regulatory bodies is met or exceeded, and ensures that the clinical program guidelines are adhered to. Directly responsible for the clinical quality of the program.



  • Provides day-to-day leadership and oversight of UPMC Pinnacle Wound & Hyperbaric Center locations, including all nursing clinical staff. Develops, reviews and revises departmental policies and procedures.  Ensures that standards, policies, processes, and procedures are consistently followed across all sites. Ensures competencies are determined and obtained by clinical nursing staff consistently at all sites.  Actively leads and supervises other nurses. Assists the System Director with reviewing, evaluating, and reporting on clinical aspects of the Wound & Hyperbaric Centers across the System. Ensures compliance quality of nursing documentation across the System Wound & Hyperbaric Centers. Acts as a liaison to other departments within the System when needed. Anticipates changes within the specialty and influences the System to change/adapt/flex accordingly and participates in planning when necessary.
  • Conducts monthly staff meetings to encourage inter-site communication. Prepares activity and statistical reports as requested? Guides staff in allocation of resources that supports the recommended staffing guidelines to provide adequate care and coverage while minimizing cost, reflecting census and clinical acuity. Evaluates multi-site performance according to established standards and predetermined goals, such as budget targets, patient satisfaction, staff turnover and patient care outcomes, in conjunction with the System Director. Demonstrates competencies within the clinical practice guidelines for wound care and hyperbaric medicine. Evaluates nursing practice to ensure compliance with standards of care, performance, infection control, quality, etc. Participates in the evaluation of patient satisfaction surveys, CAHPS, etc. Demonstrates genuine concern and empathy to all patients
  • Demonstrates accountability, professionalism, and confidentiality at all times. Exemplifies the Standards of Behavior at all times. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility while effectively planning and utilizing resources, in addition to ensuring that all productivity goals are met throughout all sites. Reviews performance metrics with staff determining progress and achievement of goals and objectives. Assists staff with improvement of job performance, coaching consistently. Encourages and promotes further education of staff. Fosters teamwork, commitment to the department assigned and the System. Empowers staff to make decisions and offers learning opportunities for those who wish to grow within the department or System. Participates in succession planning for the department, understanding the importance of an active succession plan at all times. Serves as a resource for staff and leadership regarding regulatory compliance. Collaborates with site clinical nurse managers for consistency, clarity, and adherence to policies. Completes budget variances and provides commentary when targets are not met. Ensures that the work environment is safe for staff and patients, including inspecting the facilities routinely and ordering preventative maintenance when necessary. Provides oversight for all emergency-related activities, site specific drills, etc., creating a standard for all sites to follow, including but not limited to fire and safety. Recruits, interviews, hires, coaches, counsels, disciplines where necessary. Supports the philosophy and practice of the Patient Care Model
  • Collaborates with nurses in developing relevant research and evidence-based practices across the System Wound & Hyperbaric Centers. Serves on other committees where appropriate. Maintains professional license and certifications, along with competencies annually. Coordinates with visiting nurses/residents who are performing observations in the sites. Always demonstrates a high degree of customer service. Must maintain professionalism and communicate effectively and easily with staff, patients, visitors, and members of the communities we serve. Must be self-directed, and motivated. Must be able to think creatively to solve problems, come up with innovative solutions and ways to continue to create an exceptional care environment



  • Graduate of a professional school of nursing with a current Pennsylvania license.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, and a minimum of 5 years of Nursing experience.
  • Three (3) years of experience in specialty area.

Previous leadership experience required. Must demonstrate a commitment to continuing education for one's self. Demonstrates a commitment and adherence to the Standards of Behavior and UPMC Pinnacle's Mission. Master's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Education preferred. Certification in Nurse specialty (wound care or hyperbaric oxygen medicine, or both is preferred. If not certified at time of hire, must certify in one area within 2 years of hire date). Has the ability to communicate effectively; and to present (when requested).

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Clearances must be dated within 90 days

  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
