Description
The Intermediate Programmer position is an integral part of a support team for the Clinical Data Warehouse which houses data from a variety of clinical sources from across the enterprise. The candidate will support the team’s role in acquisition, discovery, timely delivery, and successful recurring updates of current and newly requested data to our business partners. Clinical Analytics is at the forefront of rapidly expanding enterprise-wide analytics efforts including but not limited to clinician/research support, corporate dashboards, advanced analytics as well as data modeling.
Responsibilities:

Documentation - Create basic technical documentation and maintains and validates current documentation. Create documentation of build as it relates to change management.

Disaster Recovery Plan/Business Continuity - Responsible for completion of assigned tasks related to business continuity/disaster recovery efforts. Complete these tasks independently, and escalate more complex tasks to senior team members as appropriate.

Communication - Responsible for demonstrating appropriate, clear, concise, and effective written and oral communications in all interactions to build relationships and accomplish day to day work and projects.

Self Development - Responsible for continuous self-study, trainings, partnering with more senior members of team, and/or seeking out opportunities to broaden scope to stay up to date with industry and organizational trends. Seeks feedback from senior team members for development and effectively incorporates feedback into work and behaviors.

Evaluate/Develop/Implement Technical Solutions - Responsible for developing a moderately complex component of a technical solution, assisting with implementation of the technical solutions, and maintaining moderately complex software code under the direction of senior members of the team.

Deploying production applications/change control processes - Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of change control processes. Responsible for performing the changes.

Maintenance/Support - Handle report requests and show the ability to update data and information with guidance from senior team members. Show initiative to provide support and resolution of issues. Escalate more complex issues as necessary.

Project Management - Oversee less complex projects with assistance from senior team members and show the ability to take project ownership.
Qualifications

Typically has 2+ years experience in a programming language. Highly driven and self-motivated to exceed expectations.

Ability to work independently and in a team-based environment.

Proficient in both oral and written communication.

Demonstrates thorough understanding of information technology fundamental tools and concepts of one of the information technology professional disciplines and applies that understanding to make independent practical contributions to IT work within a particular UPMC department or function.

Complete ongoing training on-the-job, through courses, self-study, certifications and/or advanced degrees to maintain and enhance technical and business capabilities.

Additionally, this position may be required to maintain a standby status as part of a rotation within the team. This requires 24 hours per day, 7 days per week availability during the standby period. The frequency varies based upon the number of colleagues in the rotation.

Scripting experience (SQL, shell script, Python)

Exposure to or experience with job scheduling software is a plus.

Database administration experience (Oracle, SQL Server)

Unix platform knowledge

Experience with HL7 and XML
-
Informatica experience to facilitate troubleshooting workflow errors, interpret logs, etc.is a plus

Experience in deploying application and process changes across environments.
