UPMC is hiring a full-time Graphic Designer II to support our Communication Marketing department within the Community Care Behavioral Health business unit. This will have a Monday through Friday daylight schedule. This a hybrid role, with some work-from-home/remote work and some travel to the office. 

The Graphic Designer II utilizes artistic, analytical, and technical skills to design, art direct, photograph, prepare camera-ready artwork for, and manage the production of primarily intermediate and occasionally advanced graphic materials such as brochures, posters, newsletters, advertisements, displays, and other miscellaneous means of visual communication. Interact with design and editorial staff, division directors, clients, vendors, and other UPMC faculty and staff to produce high quality products that meet project objectives.

Experience with InDesign, PowerPoint, Adobe Suite, and/or Microsoft Teams is preferred.


  • Lay out and produce camera-ready artwork for all materials (through the use of computer desktop publishing methods or conventional mechanical paste-up) as needed.
  • Provide the very best service possible by working efficiently as a team member or individually with all UPMC staff and clients.
  • Design, art direct, and lay out materials, keeping within established time and budget constraints. These materials include: brochures, capabilities books, conference materials, quarterly publications, newsletters, corporate graphic standards projects, programs, posters, flyers, binders, binder inserts, folders, invitations, cards, tickets, name badges, and other related documents and collateral.
  • Under the direction of a Marketing Communications Manager, help organize, manage, and provide direction for the overall design of materials within assigned product lines.
  • Design, art-direct, lay out, prepare camera-ready artwork for, and coordinate production, erection, and storage of displays, posters, signage and miscellaneous three-dimensional projects. Develop and write exact specifications for these projects; in conjunction with the Purchasing department, purchase vendor services; work directly with vendors during production as needed.
  • Effectively meet and communicate with Health Plan designers, division directors, public relations specialists, and clients to discuss design projects; analyze project needs and plan the design and production accordingly.
  • Prepare and distribute production schedules and other interdepartmental operational forms to appropriate corporate communications personnel for all projects.
  • Prepare printing specifications and properly communicate these specifications to the appropriate vendors, purchasing agents, and communications personnel; obtain vendor bids and coordinate pre-production activities.
  • Maintain Community Care Graphic Standards on all appropriate materials; provide consultation to various UPMC staff, clients, and vendors regarding implementation of these standards; under the supervision of the Graphic Design Manager, develop, revise, and document standards as needed.
  • Supervise miscellaneous free-lance designers and artists in the design, lay out, and production of materials, keeping within established time and budget constraints.


  • B.A. degree in Graphic Design or related field, with at least 2 years of professional experience in the field, or an Associate degree with at least 4 years of experience required.
  • Knowledge of and experience in using computer graphics and electronic imaging hardware and software to perform basic and complex graphic design and production functions required.
  • Well-rounded portfolio of actual projects that demonstrate design and production abilities required.
  • Experience in corporate publication design preferred.
  • Experience in three-dimensional display design preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required.
