The Sr. Trainer is responsible for planning, designing, coordinating, and delivering training on UPMC Health Plan commercial products and benefits to new and existing employees within various departments.


  • Completes special projects and performs related duties as assigned.
  • Assembles and implements departmental policy and procedure to support objectives.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Summarizes and interprets training results and develops detailed reports for stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Maintains a positive learning environment for learners to support the experience, skill, knowledge, and capabilities of participants.
  • Works cooperatively with management as a performance consultant in order to ensure business goals are being achieved.
  • Coordinates all aspects of the training and continuing education process, including industry research, materials development, program delivery, and assessment.
  • Works with Management to develop and implement methods to assess current and future staff and provider training requirements; actively participates in the development and implementation of annual training plans for various departments.
  • Serves as a role model of Service Excellence by providing quality training and development services that are responsive to client needs, proactive in scope and accessible in nature.
  • Using the Basics of Service Excellence as a guide, responds to the needs of individual employees, departments, or other organizations with courtesy, respect, and a positive outlook that reflects the team effort of the department.
  • Designs, develops, delivers and evaluates training programs.
  • These programs should be targeted to the specific level of t knowledge and need within each department.



  • Bachelor's degree in education, business, or other related field required and 2 years training experience or High School Diploma and 5-7 years of direct experience in Managed care and/or Indemnity environment with at least 3 years of training experience in a health care setting and Call Center/or Claims experience within UPMC.
  • Experience in methods and techniques of adult education with demonstrated success.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skills and independent decision-making abilities a must.
  • Expert process and project management skills required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and PC skills required.
  • Certified Health Education Specialist certification required within 1-year of hire.
