The Sr. Strategic Account Representative works in tandem with the account lead for an assigned book of business that includes the WC division's largest commercial clients. The Sr. Strategic Account Representative supports the account lead with the renewal process, planning meetings with the client, implementation, reviewing financial and utilization reporting prior to delivery to the client, reviewing contracts prior to delivery to the client, maintaining all coverage documents, reviewing all member communication materials, staffing enrollment events, and training the member services team on the particulars of the account. The Sr. Strategic Account Representative is responsible, in tandem with the account lead, for maintaining the client relationship, as well as client and member satisfaction.

This position offers the opportunity to work with several internal departments and learn the business acquisition through the program management process as well as the opportunity to take deeper dive into business strategies, how departments/programs fit into a bigger picture to serve clients. You will meet and expand relationships with employers, brokers, attorneys, vendors, etc. Each day in account management varies & presents new situations in which to learn and grow professionally. 

This role is in the U.S. Steel Tower, 600 Grant St., Pittsburgh, PA  15219 OR Remote; 7:30a-4p or 8a-4:30p. 



  • Assist the account lead in managing the client renewal process including requests for alternative plan designs.Implementation of acquisitions and new client initiatives.
  • Developing and delivering employee open enrollment presentations, as needed.Ensure that schedules of benefits are correct and ID cards are released in time for members to receive them prior to effective date of coverage.
  • Assist Account Executive in analyzing utilization reports and working with the Clinical and Wellness account managers to identify areas of opportunity.Support the mission of the Health Plan's senior leadership.
  • Attend client meetings with the account lead. Prepares meeting planners, agendas and tracks follow up issues.Support the integrated account management process.
  • Maintain up-to-date information on book of business via Salesforce.Understand operational work flows of the Health Plan that impact the clients and their membership, and have ability to assist in problem solving when operational issues arise. This includes scheduling meetings and conference calls with operations team members.
  • Work in conjunction with the Account Service Manager to ensure day to day issues are resolved.Maintain excellent working relationships with internal staff.
  • Keep current with UPMC Insurance Services Division product knowledge as well as legislation that impacts our business.Follow through on all client requests in a timely fashion.Exercise good judgment in regard to alerting management of service and renewal issues that could negatively impact client retention.



  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Two to three (2-3) years of experience with successful group medical insurance sales and/or account management are required.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.Ability to develop and maintain credibility with the clients.
  • Excellent organization and analytical skills.Ability to multitask and work within a team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.Ability to work with and take direction from the account lead.
