Description

UPMC is currently hiring a Regular, Full-Time Genetic Counselor II to support the Department of Medicine located in Oakland/Pittsburgh, PA! 

There is a need for clinical services and implementation of advancing precision medicine technology at the Primary Care level and patients looking for this service. Many of these patients do not meet criteria for Medical Genetics consults. Primary Care Precision Medicine was formed to help those patients, while promoting the education of primary care providers to reduce barriers of integration. Our team works with genetic providers to help develop a controlled delivery model and scope of care to best meet patient needs. 

Purpose:
Performs professional and administrative duties necessary to provide counseling and risk asessment for genetic conditions to patients and families.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates expanded knowledge of genetic testing availability and orders appropriately
  • Participates in a genetics related outreach activity
  • Submits an abstract (either poster or platform) for a professional medical society meeting
  • Contributes to departmental/divisional educational materials
  • Demonstrates understanding of research protocols
  • Demonstrates competency with triaging patients for scheduling
  • Completes all duties of a Genetic Counselor I
  • Demonstrates proficiency with EMR; incorporates standardized notes for efficiency; completes EMR charting in a timely manner
  • One presentation at GSPH Clinical Case Conference (Thursdays @ noon during academic year)
  • If research focused position: Consents patients for research study; contributes to writing of IRB protocol, informed consent and other related documents; contributes to manuscripts

 

Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Human Genetics/Genetic Counseling from an American Board of Genetics Counseling (ABGC) accredited institution.
  • 3 years experience as a genetic counselor required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) certified genetic counselor who holds a PA license.
