Description

Purpose:
Provides all training to new and existent transcriptionists. Conducts regular quality assurance checks on all the work of the medical transcriptionists. Keeps medical transcriptionists up to date on current medical terminology and pharmacology.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Interacts with Health Information co-workers and with other ancillary departments.
  • During periods of heavy backlog of dictation, assists in the transcription of dictated reports according to established procedures.
  • Sets up testing for medical transcription applicants and check test results.
  • Contributes to the department standardization of reports.
  • Conducts regular quality assurance checks on all medical transcriptionists.
  • Assists in the development of a departmental medical transcription training manual.
  • Researches questions presented by medical transcriptionists for better clarification of dictation.
  • Keeps medical transcriptionists up to date on new medical terminology and pharmacology.
  • Assists staff in deciphering difficult words and phraseology.
  • Trains all new medical transcriptionists, as well as cross trains all existent medical transcriptionists on all work types.
  • Trains all new employees on the transcription/dictation equipment.

 

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a two-year approved program for medical secretaries; Certified Medical Transcriptionist; or a graduate of hospital-approved program for transcription specialists.
  • Three to five years hospital experience as a medical transcriptionist preferred.
  • Special Requirements Accurate typist of minimum of 65 wpm.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of medical and surgical terminology and pharmacology, as well as knowledge of all work types and formatting of reports.
  • Must have acquired skill in use of transcription and dictation equipment.
  • Must be dependable and have ability to effectively communicate. Also possess diplomacy and tactfulness. Some teaching experience preferred


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Clearances must be dated within 90 days
 

  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
