Histology Image Scanning Tech

This is a full-time, Monday through Friday, position in the Lab Administration - Pathology department, supporting multiple site locations, and requires travel between UPMC Presbyterian, UPMC Magee, and the Clinical Lab Buildings in the Oakland area.

Provide support to the Histology department for validation and implementation of telepathology system, including imaging of microscopic slides, quality assurance of images, data review of errors, as well as equipment knowledge and troubleshooting.


  • Serve as the primary resource for equipment knowledge, troubleshooting, and data information regarding imaging systems.
  • Load prepared microscopic slides onto digital image scanner for pathologist review.
  • Assist with laboratory slide preparation and delivery operations to limit the disruption to workflow.
  • Perform quality assurance evaluation on scanned images.
  • Confirm slides are scanned as complete cases.
  • Prepare and analyze data metrics related to imaging system reliability.
  • Collaborate professionally with the digital imaging implementation team to ensure success.


  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-year previous medical record department-related experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, histology, anatomy, and pathology.
  • Ability to understand, manipulate and verify data for accurate reports.
  • Ability to work in an environment with demanding rush deadlines and to concentrate under the pressure of time constraints.
  • Associate's degree in related field preferred.
