Lead Sonographer

Description

UPMC Shadyside is hiring a Lead Sonographer to join the Ultrasound team!  This position will work varied daylight shifts and have on-call, weekend & holiday responsibilities.  If you are looking to take the next step in your ultrasound career, apply today!

Purpose:
In addition to performing imaging procedures at an advanced level, coordinates workflow, assists with projects and coordinates educational activities. Functions as a working technologist and distributes workload to ensure efficient operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads orientation and training for new hires, students, and other medical personnel; ensures competencies are completed in the required time frame. Responsible for offering remediation with sonographers when necessary
  • Performs ultrasound diagnostic examinations in accordance with Level I and Level II Advanced sonographer.
  • Assists in talent acquisition interviews for successful recruitment of sonographer candidates and provides feedback for annual performance reviews.
  • May be responsible for High-Level disinfection of devices, supplies and/or equipment
  • Coordinates daily workflow and schedule of the department while maintaining staffing levels based on, but not limited to, call offs, vacations, patient volumes, and training needs.
  • Assists with quality assurance projects and assists in the development of exam protocols alongside or in place of advanced sonographers and communicates results back to departmental leadership.
  • Assumes the leadership role in the absence of the supervisor.

 

Qualifications

  • Completion of formal training in an Ultrasound program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is required.
  • 3 years of ultrasound experience required


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • RDMS Registered required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • CPR is required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Act 34
