Radiology Navigator

To improve care and reduce stress for patients having diagnostic radiology testing.Evaluate, report, and ensure follow-up of data from lung cancer screeningFunctions as an agent of the UPMC Center of Excellence for Lung Cancer Screening. Analyzes data and medical information, takes action to facilitate appropriate screening, manage LCSR data. Provides support to mammography department and ensures that prior images are obtained and available to the interpreting radiologist. Delegates and supervises assistive personnel. Meets the expectations of a professional employee. Role is professional, specialized, and connected to patient care.



  • Reviews and reports on data regularly to steering committee.
  • Create and oversee quarterly data entry audit to ensure accurate upload to the ACR registry.
  • Function as patient advocate by using specified radiology knowledge to provide aid and education based on the patient?s need.
  • Ensures data quality entry into the national database.
  • Ensures IT systems help promote seamless ordering of screening tests and ensure results are delivered to ordering physician and patient.
  • Responsible for scheduling and preparing agenda, handouts, and presentation for interdisciplinary meetings with physician and operational leaders.
  • Collaborates with Radiologists and Ordering practitioners to prioritize patient needs, problems and goals; intervenes or refers.
  • Prepares semiannual update to QC committee.
  • Monitor adherence to annual lung cancer screening scan schedule.
  • Administer the UPMC Altoona lung cancer screening program by identifying high risk patients, facilitating the appropriate diagnostic testing, and managing LCSR data.
  • Helps all programs with ensuring compliance with center of excellence requirements.
  • Accountable for managing the Data collection for the ACR National Registry, the Lung Cancer Screening Registry (LCSR).
  • Collaborates with patients and ordering practitioners about screening follow-up schedules.
  • Work with UPMC Altoona multidisciplinary team and UPMC LDCT Steering Committee to provide best practices for a Center of Excellence for Lung Screening.




  • High School Diploma.
  • Successful completion of a medical secretarial program or equivalent.
  • Core professional radiology/medical knowledge and skills; 5 years experience in radiology, ability to apply knowledge; anticipate, think and respond quickly; caring, psychosocial skills; team performance, communication, coordination, delegation, supervision, continuous learning.
  • Proficient with Rad assessment, Imagecast, EPIC, and Microsoft office applications.
  • Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing.
