UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

UPMC Altoona is currently hiring a Casual Registered Nurse to cover various shifts on the 5F Med/Surg Pediatrics unit. This is a 12 bed medical/surgical/pediatric/bariatric unit. Our nurses are required to obtain pediatric advanced life support within one year of hire. Nurses should join our team due to the complexity of patients and the close-knit staff that work as a team. Leadership takes time with staff to meet their needs and help them develop their career path along the way. Our nurses are required to obtain trauma education and certification within one year of hire as we are a preferred unit for medical/surgical trauma patients.

 

Purpose:
Provides direct and indirect care to patients utilizing the nursing process. Provides leadership for the nursing team, and contributes to the education of a variety of members of the staff and students.


Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to adapt to clinical treatment and instructional aspect of care to all stages of the life cycle and to various states of health and disease.
  • General nursing ability.
  • Document/records appropriate information required in performance of responsibilities

 

Qualifications

Minimum of 1 year experience

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
