UPMC is hiring an Associate Systems Engineer to join the Enterprise Architect IT Team!

This position will focus on the delivery of assessments of enterprise technologies to ensure alignment with UPMC business strategy. The Systems Engineer – Enterprise Architecture will drive continued development of the Enterprise Architecture practice at UPMC through standards definition and process implementation. Part of this role will also include guiding the Application Selection process from a business capability perspective and may provide support for other EA projects, as assigned.

Responsibilities:
  • Core technology concepts - Responsible for showing a basic understanding of designated technologies and their use. Demonstrates the initiative to learn internal processes and procedures.
  • Project Management - Complete basic project-related tasks and tasks delegated by more senior members of the team. Responsible for time tracking and updating documentation.
  • Maintenance/Upgrades - Follow documented procedures for maintenance and upgrades. Responsible for assisting with Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • End-user support - Complete basic documented tasks related to end user support.
  • Communication - Responsible for demonstrating appropriate, clear, concise, and effective written and oral communications in all interactions to build relationships and accomplish day to day work and projects.
  • Troubleshooting/Critical Thinking - Ability to resolve basic issues or offer input on issue resolution.
  • Self Development - Responsible for continuous self-study, trainings, partnering with more senior members of team, and/or seeking out opportunities to broaden scope to stay up to date with industry and organizational trends. Seeks feedback from senior team members for development and effectively incorporates feedback into work and behaviors.
  • Interactions with Others - Successfully completes projects, tasks, and initiatives by embracing a team-first approach. Works in collaboration with team and offers feedback, where appropriate, to complete individual and group efforts. Shows the ability to adjust and be flexible to change by adapting approach when necessary.
Additional Responsibilities: 
  • Coordinate and deliver architecture assessments and recommendations by leveraging business requirements, architect expertise, and market research; conduct meetings related to assigned assessments/projects
  • Identify areas to reduce IT costs by leveraging existing IT infrastructure, licenses and resources
  • Enhance maturity of enterprise architecture at UPMC by applying standard frameworks and best practices; proactively identify and lead improvements in areas of opportunity
  • Maintain and communicate information on recent trends in architecture practices as well as new technology capabilities

Qualifications

  • Typically has familiarity with complex systems environments through education or practical experience.
  • Ability to perform basic/standard IT procedures and protocols.
  • This position may be required to maintain a 24/7 off hours support as part of a rotation within the team. The frequency varies based upon the number of colleagues in the rotation.
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Demonstrate thorough understanding of the fundamental tools and concepts of one of the information technology professional disciplines (i.e., Applications, Business Analysis, Customer Service, Data, Networking, Operations, Security, Systems Engineering, etc.) and applies that understanding to make independent practical contributions to IT work within a particular UPMC department or function
  • Strong leadership and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Prior knowledge of TOGAF, PMBOK, COBIT, ITIL are a plus
  • Meet IT Career Level Criteria for Individual/Team Contributors outlined in the Universal Criteria Leveling Guide.
This is a remote position with workspace available at US Steel Tower or Forbes Tower (Pittsburgh, PA) if needed
