Description

Purpose:

The Transport Supervisor is a dynamic position that provides direct oversight of patient transport processes, lead transporter, transport equipment and transport personnel within the inpatient setting.  The Supervisor is accountable for ensuring patients are transported in a safe, comfortable, and courteous manner.  The Supervisor works collaboratively with testing and procedural departments, nursing, and information technology to increase efficiencies.  The Supervisor globally monitors inpatient volumes, within one or more hospitals, and provides direction to the team to maintain productive patient flow. The Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department including but not limited to employee scheduling, employee counseling, interviewing, evaluations, efficient patient flow and hardwiring patient experience initiatives. 

Responsibilities:

  • Be certain that the transporters are maintaining efficient and sanitary vehicles.
  • Supervise transporters and team leaders in the movement of specimens, patients, materials, supplies and equipment to and from assigned areas. Ensures that a handoff of medication occurs with the nurse.
  • Maintain communications with patient care unit, treatment center, central service, respiratory therapy, and laboratory supervisory personnel so that maximum efficiency of the department is achieved. Employee ensures that he/she will conduct himself/herself in a professional manner at all times.
  • Knowledgeable of all safety, fire, evacuation, emergency care, and disaster policies and procedures.
  • Perform any supplemental duties requested by the Director, Manager, or Administration relative to the efficient, safe, and responsible operation of the department.
  • Evaluate and supervise the orientation of new transportation personnel and volunteers to insure maximum growth with sufficient information provided.
  • Prepare and monitor transportation department payroll sheets and time cards.
  • Incumbent will conform to attendance policies
  • Know and enforce general hospital policies with respect to the transporter, team leaders and dispatchers. Determine avenues of corrective action when abuse occurs.
  • Provide proper scheduling for all assigned shifts.
  • Supervise the reporting and clerical activities of transportation and dispatchers.

 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • 3 years relevant experience required
  • 1 year relevant leadership experience required


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

Clearances must be dated within 90 days

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
