Sr. Professional Staff Nurse -- Outpatient Oncology

We are currently hiring a  Full-time Sr. Professional Staff Nurse to support the Outpatient Oncology Unit at our Oakland location. You will work Monday through Friday, four 10-hour shifts. No weekends, nights, or holidays!

The Professional Staff Nurse is a valued step in the UPMC nursing career ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement; Title and salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience. Six months experience is required for Professional Staff Nurses. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Applies the nursing process within the framework of Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment. Formulates daily goals and a plan of care for patients that involves the patient as partner and considers the individual needs of the patient in a holistic manner.  
  • Demonstrates critical thinking in the identification of clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues for the patient within an episode of care.  
  • Practices solid communication skills and is able to articulate and translate the patient's condition to other care providers and to negotiate and make recommendations for changes in patient care and unit practices. Patient documentation is comprehensive and promotes communication between caregivers. 
  • Creates a caring and compassionate patient-focused experience by building healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues. 
  • Incorporates national professional organization as well as business unit and health system goals to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.  

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience.
  • BSN HIGHLY preferred.
  • Oncology, GI, and Derm experience preferred
  • IV skill experience HIGHLY preferred. 
  • Must obtain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on a Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluation to be promoted to this level. Must maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on annual performance evaluation to maintain status.
  • Annual completion of 2 professional contributions selected from department, hospital or system goals, and approved by Unit Director OR certification and 1 professional contribution selected from department, hospital or system goals, and approved by Unit Director as set forth through UPMC's My Nursing Career Ladder.
  • Certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held. If a BSN is held, a Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted in lieu of Certification.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • UPMC approved nursing certification preferred. Certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held.
  • Annual completion of 2 professional contributions selected from department, hospital, or system goals, and approved by your Unit Director OR certification and 1 professional contribution selected from department, hospital or system goals, and approved by your Unit Director as set forth through UPMC's My Nursing Career Ladder.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
    • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Act 34 with renewal
