Lab Supervisor BSC


The Lab Supervisor organizes and coordinates lab collection systems within the Outpatient lab collection sites and is responsible for supervision of Outpatient collection site staff.


  • Responsible for the efficient operations of the collection staff; supervises the collection staff.
  • Assigns and reviews work for the department's collection staff; completes performance rating forms on assigned personnel. Trains new employees in the proper procedure of assigned duties.
  • Develops more effective departmental systems with views toward improving the quality of work and expediting the completion of assigned department activities.
  • Maintains cost containment.
  • Schedules workdays for subordinates.
  • Completes time and attendance payroll for subordinates.
  • Maintains inventory control of section materials and supplies, request replenishment, maintains knowledge of expiration dates and follows up effectively.
  • Provides departmental orientation to new employees.
  • Supervises and trains new collection staff employees.
  • Compiles logs for collection sheets.
  • Maintains storage of old records.
  • Performs venipunctures when phlebotomy team is unavailable.
  • Ensures maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Requests new equipment as needed and develops new laboratory procedures.
  • Assumes overall responsibility of the Laboratory in the absence of the Administrative Director.



  • B.S. degree from an accredited college/university and successful completion of a CAHEA accredited Medical Technology program and certification as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) within 2 years from hire date
  • ORB.S. degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science and a categorical certification for the specific specialty by the ASCP OR a B.S. degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science,ORSuccessfully completed the HEW (HHS) proficiency examination, and 6 years of experience as a Medical Technologist.
  • Ability to develop and encourage employees to fulfill their full potential. Ability to cope in situations at high stress levels and be able to reconcile the objectives of management and the medical staff to produce optimal patient results.
