The Associate, Audit & Compliance Data Analytics position reports to the Director, Data Intelligence & Investigations. The Associate's primary responsibility is to assist on high-quality data analytics and visualization projects in support of Internal Audit, Compliance, and Fraud Team engagements, in a timely manner and in accordance with professional standards. This position will leverage organizational data across a wide range of subject matter for quantitative analysis, risk monitoring, investigation, and auditing activities. Working under the direction of more senior staff, the Associate will collaborate with Audit, Compliance, and Fraud teams to identify recommendations that improve UPMC operations and controls.

The Associate is accountable for producing the first drafts of work papers and deliverables (such as reports and data visualizations) that are professional in appearance, and that reflects a basic understanding of risk and control concepts and industry best practices. The Associate is developing skills in querying, cleaning, analyzing, and visualizing data derived from established organizational data repositories to facilitate data analytics work. The Associate may also occasionally assist on various investigative activities in support of Fraud Team and Privacy investigations under the direction of more senior staff. The Associate has basic knowledge and skills in analytics concepts, visualization techniques, and related software tools, and is working towards proficiency. The Associate collaborates with senior staff across the department. Working under the supervision of the Director and senior staff, this position will assist with all aspects of data analytics projects including planning, executing, documenting, and interpreting the results of data analysis steps and building visualizations as appropriate.

Responsibilities:

  • Technology: Possesses basic knowledge of data querying, cleansing, validation, analysis, and visualization techniques, and is developing basic knowledge of statistical modeling and other advanced analytics tools (e.g., machine learning) to explore and mine data. Is developing proficiency in at least one relevant programming language (ACL, Python, R, SAS, SQL, etc.) and/or Visualization tool (PowerBI, Tableau, etc.). Is developing an understanding of software development techniques and systems to support quickly learning and implementing new technical tools or solutions. Is building consistency in writing code and preparing visualizations in conformance with departmental standards and industry best practices. Possesses aptitude to independently research effective solutions to technical problems. Is developing a working knowledge in extracting and combining data from a variety of data warehouses, reporting tools, and systems in use at UPMC. Assists with maintaining and improving departmental scripts, automated tasks, and risk monitoring metrics. Is developing a network of colleagues and peers within the department and/or within relevant industry organizations.
  • Workpapers & Reports: Assists with the execution of continuous auditing tests and analyzes datasets for basic patterns including fraud, control breakdown and regulatory non-compliance. Validates source data integrity and evaluates results and variances from expectations. Scripts analytics in accordance with departmental standards and coding best practices in ACL and Python (or other tools/languages) to allow for repeatability, QA testing, and peer reviews. Proposes testing steps for routine statistical analytics opportunities. Assists senior staff with the identification of root causes of issues. Prepares drafts for review by senior staff and Management that demonstrate professional writing and critical thinking. Monitors project work for timeliness and adherence to departmental quality standards and validates evidence is organized to fully support conclusions and findings.
  • Risks & Industry: Is developing an understanding of risk & control concepts and skills in data and business process analysis to propose relevant data analyses and visualizations. Developing intermediate knowledge of IT, healthcare, and statistical terminology/concepts as well as common industry risks. Belongs to industry and/or discipline professional organizations.
  • Leadership: Occasionally assists on departmental and organizational special projects. Is building core skills in public speaking/presentation skills and occasionally leads internal meetings. Is developing their personal brand? by fostering relationships with key subject matter experts outside of the department who are central to furthering Data Analytics initiatives (i.e., data warehouse teams, information security, etc.).
  • Department Goals: Successfully manages many competing demands and is able to monitor that individual work is delivered on time and within budgeted hours. Enhance the culture through the execution of analytics in support of Internal Audits, Compliance Projects, and Fraud Team investigations.
  • Meets departmental goals for productivity and is proactive in searching out additional tasks and projects during downtimes.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, Math, Statistics, Data Science, Business Analytics, Engineering, or other STEM related degree.
  • Or bachelor's degree in an unrelated field and either: a related master's degree, or a preferred certification and one year preferred subject matter experience.
  • Candidates with subject matter experience in: data/business analytics, software development, data warehousing, statistics/actuarial, business intelligence, information technology/information security, or auditing are preferred.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Certification Preferences: CISA, CISSP, CFE, CIA, CPA, CHC, CCEP, Six Sigma, ACDA, DASCA Certified, or other data analytics/visualization certification.

Licensure/Certification: Certification is preferred.
