Purpose:
UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is hiring full-time Genetic Counselor III for our Lawrenceville, PA location. Working Monday- Friday daylight shifts. Performs professional and administrative duties necessary to provide counseling and risk assessment for genetic conditions to patients and families. Oversee, direct, and coordinate all day-to-day functions of the CRDT. Manage programmatic issues related to all services. Monitor and manage all cases that are either entering or are currently in our care with rare diseases. Develop protocols for rare disease conditions, webinar facilitation, digital and print marketing material updates. We have a genetic counseling career ladder and a robust community of genetic counselors as well as physicians, surgeons, and researchers who are engaged in pioneering novel management plans for patients with rare diseases.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinator uses independent judgment and excellent communication with the family, physicians, and community resources to assist the patient in accessing all aspect of rare disease care and therapies at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.
- Begins to identify ways to generate additional sources of referral/revenue in alignment with departmental/divisional goals; Begins to identify opportunities for outreach to expand genetic services
- Demonstrates proficiency with research protocols; Consents patients to research protocols (clinical GC May consent; may contribute to manuscript. research GC: consents patients; may be involved in study coordination; contributes to writing IRB protocol, informed consent, manuscript, and other research documents.
- All duties of the Genetic Counselor II.
- Assumes a mentorship role with GC students and other genetics counselors ---Assumes a mentorship role with to meet educational objectives for additional learners rotating through dept/division
- Assists with EMR optimization
- Participates in and represents UPMC in community outreach activities (reports as Community Initiative)
Qualifications
- Master of Science in Human Genetics/Genetic Counseling from an American Board of Genetics Counseling (ABGC) accredited institution
- Five (5) years experience as a genetic counselor required.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- American Board of Genetic Counseling
- Certified Genetics Counselor
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
