Description

The Return to Work Coordinator is responsible for assisting employees with illnesses, injury, and/or disabilities that require temporary work restrictions. Working in conjunction with the Disability Management Team, the Return to Work Coordinator will gather and evaluate medical documentation to determine eligibility, identify and coordinate temporary vocational placement opportunities, serve as a liaison between the employee/employer/HR/medical provider, manage all cases to completion, and remain in compliance with federal, state, local laws.

Preferences:

  • Direct claims management experience using an electronic database
  • Telephonic claims management experience with regular inbound and outbound calls
  • Vocational experience helping employees return to work

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the employee’s participation the Return to Work Assistance Program, and inform all relevant team members when the return-to-work program has concluded.
  • Review changes in the employees' work restrictions and medical condition with the appropriate party, (STD Specialist, STD CCM, or MD), to ensure restrictions remain valid and medically necessary.
  • Issue claim determination by phone and via written communication to all employees, including approvals and denials of work restrictions
  • Perform job analysis and other supports to maintain the integrity of the task bask
  • Coordinate collection of required work releases and work restrictions for employee and client verification
  • Coordinate any ongoing services, such as sign language interpreters or personal care attendants, needed to support an employee’s return to work.
  • Advise employees about benefits and entitlements, including the services of the Return to Work Assistance Program, STD, Leave and ADAAA programs.
  • Escalate cases for employees who cannot return to their previous jobs to obtain career counseling, training and job search or entrepreneurial skills.
  • Arrange or conduct appropriate medical, vocational and work capacity assessments.
  • Ensure that all elements of the return-to-work plan are in place, from equipment and services to assistive technology and job modifications.
  • Use the information and suggestions to develop an effective return-to-work plan within appropriate guidelines and including a reasonable timeframe based upon prognosis and recovery times.
  • Document all lost time days and modified duty assignments
  • Perform required communication to stakeholders to advise of an employees work release and determine if any Fitness for Duty exam is required prior to the employees return to work
  • Monitor return-to-work progress, making changes as required.
  • Collect information and suggestions from the employee, all stakeholder groups, health providers and community resources to identify how the work environment can be adopted to fit the capacity of the worker with a temporary or permanent impairment.
  • Participate in the preparation of individual and group progress reports to management regarding status of employees with an accommodation.
  • Properly close SAW/TRTW and RTW cases in database upon the employees Full Time Full Duty return to work or document the interactive process and rationale for delays in return or movement to a permanent accommodation. Accurately document and close the employees restricted days and send appropriate closure communication to required stakeholders.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in Psychology, Human Services, Human Resource Management, Public Administration or other related field.
  • Demonstrates professional and operational knowledge of State and Federal Disability, ADA, ADAAA, FMLA and other appropriate laws.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Advanced organizational skills and analytical skills with the ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and proven interpersonal communication skills. Able to coordinate and manage several tasks/duties at the same time.
  • Able to weigh and evaluate several factors requiring judgment and problem solving.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook. Knowledge of HRIS and timekeeping systems.
  • Able to deal with all levels of employees within the organization.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology a plus
