UPMC is seeking a Digital Marketing Specialist II role in Pittsburgh, PA. This role will be responsible for managing the planning, development, launch, and evaluation of web-based promotional and marketing programs in order to increase qualified site visits and conversions on and social media channels, with the ultimate goal of helping to increase patient volume.

  • Manage the development of system-wide web-based marketing campaigns as stand-alone efforts and/or in integration with existing clinical content on
  • Prepare and monitor project time lines for assigned projects, which include a detailed description of major work segments, tasks to be completed, estimated start and completion dates, and assignment of resources/responsibilities.
  • Analyze and interpret web metrics to determine the effectiveness of web-based programs and establish system-wide standards.
  • Assist with hands-on design (HTML, Flash) for projects as needed.
  • Maintain current industry knowledge and trends.
  • Extract learnings, determine best-practices, and extend best-practices across the system.
  • Act as the lead in working with clients to investigate and deploy various rich media plug-ins such as surgical animations, interactive tours, and widgets.
  • Ensure that content and design is consistent, understandable, accessible and consistent with UPMC brand standards.
  • Oversee the rotation of marketing programs and promotional content on the home page, and perform related site maintenance.
  • Manage web projects of varying levels of complexity and sophistication, collaborating with departmental communications managers, physicians, administrators, web architects and programmers, and designers.
  • Keep senior management apprised of status and accomplishments.
  • Identify and recommend website improvements to increase qualified site visits.
  • Lead efforts to direct targeted users from other websites to through a combination of search engine optimization programs, including organic and pay-per-click programs, as well as development, maintenance, and monitoring of UPMC's presence on other websites, weblogs, discussion forums, and other web outlets.
  • Project manage ongoing optimization projects for various service lines within UPMC?s priorities
  • Perform routine keyword research and competitive analysis for new web projects
  • Manage SEO content projects with 3rd party vendors and freelancers
  • Maintain and enhance technical SEO strength of Sitecore websites
  • Produce technical and content audits for new websites and website overhauls
  • Identify and pitch new content based on SEO relevancy
  • Optimize and enrich existing content based on SEO relevancy
  • Stay up-to-date on current trends and algorithm shifts in the Search Engine Optimization Industry


  • Bachelor's degree with a focus in marketing, communications, business or information technology required.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a marketing communications position or related field.
  • Social media experience required. Social media experience in professional setting strongly preferred.
  • Working, current knowledge of web- and social media-based concepts, tools, and techniques such as search engine optimization, usability, navigation, QA testing, content development and metrics/reporting systems.
  • Experience working with interactive agencies preferred.
  • Ability to communicate complex medical information to a consumer audience.
  • Strong client project management skills.
  • Superior oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to multitask. Attention to detail. Strong interpersonal and team skills
