Description
UPMC Memorial is looking for a motivated individual with cardiovascular background to work in its Cardiac Processing Unit (CPU). This position works Monday through Friday 8-4:30 with no call required. The candidate will work alongside Registered Nurses in the CPU to perform the following functions:
- Assists RN’s to provide care to adult Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology patients
- Coordinate patient visits and schedule patients for additional visits
- Draw and process blood samples, IV placement and therapy, Obtain ECG’s as needed
- Femoral Hemostasis therapy
- Completes departmental clerical functions
- Performs blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections
- Has successfully completed Basic arrhythmia class
- Identifies and communicates learning needs to the unit director.
- Complies with safety policies and procedures including standard precautions
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all members of the health care team
- Establishes appropriate and effective communication with other departments
- Provides instruction to patients and their families under the direction of the RN
- Assures equipment malfunctions are reported to the appropriate department
- Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by demonstrating accountability for actions, enthusiasm, motivation and commitment to patients and colleagues
- Performs assigned work in a timely and productive manner and takes action to improve knowledge, skills and performance
- Contributes to the universal unit activities including, but not limited to, responding to call lights and telephones, passing meal trays and transporting patients
- Demonstrates awareness of behavior on the efficient functioning of the department. Constructively receives feedback and direction. Cares for patients and self by supporting safety in the workplace
- Provides feedback to the RN regarding patient care and reports changes in patient status
- Assumes responsibility for assignment and views problems as challenges
- Participates in self-review as requested by the unit manager
- Transports cardiac monitored patients within the hospital setting
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- H.S. Diploma or equivalent required.
- 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant, Cardiovascular Technician or a Paramedic is required.
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant program is preferred.
- Knowledgeable in anatomy and physiology of the heart. Ability to think and act independently.
- Computer skills are highly preferred.
- Basic arthemia course and pass written exam with 80% score or higher.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
Clearances must be dated within 90 days.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
