Sr. Professional Staff Nurse -- OB Resource Pool

We are currently hiring a full time Sr. Professional Staff Nurse to support the OB Resource unit at the Oakland location. You float between our OB units including NICU, Labor/Delivery, Antepartum, and Mother/Baby. The Resource Pool provides ad hoc staffing solutions, special needs, or disruptions in the hospital's workforce, such as in the case of vacanies, call-offs, and surges in patient census. Resource staff also opens and staffs overflow units during high census, so a high level of autonomy and self-direction is required. To work in the Resource Pool, you must be especially flexible, knowledgeable, and responsive! Typically, 2-3 years of inpatient experience or prior work in a resource/float position is preferred; RNs receive a 10% differential in their hourly rate for floating. Our RNs work a rotating schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor.

The Sr. Professional Staff Nurse is a valued step in the UPMC nursing career ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement. Title and salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience. 3 years of experience is required for Sr. Professional Staff Nurses.

Responsibilities:

  • Applies the nursing process within the framework of Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment. Formulates daily goals and a plan of care for patients that involves the patient as partner and considers the individual needs of the patient in a holistic manner.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking in the identification of clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues for the patient within an episode of care.
  • Practices solid communication skills and is able to articulate and translate the patient's condition to other care providers and to negotiate and make recommendations for changes in patient care and unit practices. Patient documentation is comprehensive and promotes communication between caregivers.
  • Creates a caring and compassionate patient-focused experience by building healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Incorporates national professional organization as well as business unit and health system goals to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.

 

Qualifications

  • 3 years of experience required
  • Experience in OB and/or NICU highly preferred (Labor & Delivery, Mother/Baby, High Risk Antepartum, NICU)
  • No degree preference - ASN, BSN, MSN all welcome!

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
