We are looking for a person who shares this passion as well to join our team as a Manager of Perioperative Services at UPMC Presbyterian. The Manager will be responsible for traveling to other local Pittsburgh facilities as needed. This position works primarily during daylight but will support evenings and weekends for inventory as needed.

This position manages operations related to the operating room and other high-profile areas with significant inventory spend. This includes the management, procurement, and distribution of strategic perioperative supplies, implants, and materials. One will provide managerial oversight of in-scope perioperative areas including par inventory management, stocking, consignment replenishment, and control to ensure only approved products are used.

  • Oversee the perioperative supply chain management function for procedural areas with significant spend including; inventory management, expiration avoidance, SKU rationalization, purchasing, and quarterly report-outs with service line owners and VPs. Analyzes and organizes key information necessary for management team to project annual budget and savings targets for the procedural areas considered in-scope. Manage and assist cost containment initiatives for all perioperative materials. Responds quickly to physician and staff requests, including any concerns or product issues.
  • Identifies opportunities for service improvements, cost reductions and product standardization, conducts research in support of these initiatives and works with category leads and value analysis to move recommendations forward in the vetting process. In conjunction with value analysis and service line leaders, develops strategic product alternatives when standard products are on manufacturer backorder or recalled and provides timely communication to clinical staff with regular updates on progress.
  • Manages and oversees inventory levels of consigned products and works with vendor representatives to ensure product availability for surgical caseload while minimizing UPMC owned products for these commodities in sites that are in-scope. Serves as site point of accountability for the success of the inventory management and charge capture program for in-scope areas. Directly responsible for proactive ordering so as to reduce expedited freight and courier shipments. Accountable for in-scope site results.
  • Collaboration with each facility's Material Management leader to ensure seamless processes for the clinicians and patients. Implement and maintain accurate position descriptions and performance standards for all subordinates; review the job performance of each subordinate on an annual or as required basis and make recommendations to the Manager concerning potential merit increments. Select, evaluate, develop, motivate, and counsel subordinates. Ensure all personnel is aware of hospital policies and procedures; enact disciplinary procedures when appropriate.
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned.


  • College degree or 5 years of experience in healthcare supply chain management.
  • Sale/customer interfacing experience preferred.
  • Management of complex processes preferred.
  • Strong data analytics is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of management experience.
