UPMC continues to comply with governmental guidance related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. All employees and affiliated staff of UPMC entities are considered essential health care workers and will be accountable to follow the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) federal vaccine mandate. To be compliant with the federal mandate, employees must complete the approved vaccination dosage regimen currently defined by the federal government. Install, maintain, and repair gas, air, water, sewer, vacuum, medical gas, and fire suppression systems in the hospital.



  • Responsible for setting-up appropriate level of infection control containment (ICRA) based on risk level and maintaining the integrity of that containment.
  • Maintain clean and safe work area, equipment rooms and shop areas. Record work orders and submit hours to supervisor on a daily basis.
  • Estimate the approximate costs of new installations into labor and material. Maintain parts inventory. Know emergency procedures in case of utility or system failures. Schedule and plan service outages (including emergencies) when necessary for repair, alteration or additions to systems while not compromising safety or operation of facility operations. Review planned renovations to detect possible negative impacts to the facility and suggest alternates. Investigate and perform system outages in support of construction projects.
  • Perform all work following infection control procedures.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all soldering techniques b-tank and oxygen/acetelyne torches. Install/repair and maintain pipe assemblies and plumbing fixtures, including snaking of drains. Inspect systems for pressure loss and leaks. Schedule and ensure completion of PM checks on all equipment for an efficient operation. Analyze system problems by using test instruments and gauges.
  • Medical gas outlet testing. Reduced pressure backflow preventer testing. Bar coding and centralized database service for TJC inspections. Fire sprinkler/ alarm system quarterly, semi-annual, and annual testing. Dry pipe sprinkler system annual testing.
  • Be capable of performing all tasks expected of a plumber including mark, cut pipe to meet spec, prepare pipe for installation, seal, fit valve and couplings, seal connections, etc. Provides compliance testing on various equipment and systems for the city, state, federal and TJC.


  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of five-year apprenticeship, which includes blueprint reading, mechanical drawing, mathematics, and plumbing and minimum of three years work experience.
  • Knowledge of State and Local plumbing codes and ordinances is required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
OAPSA: Act 73 Department of Aging Clearance is required and must be obtained within 90 days if not a resident of Pennsylvania for 2 years prior to hire
