UPMC Hamot is currently hiring an Emergency Prep & Reg Comp Coordinator to join their team!

To assist in the coordination of Hamot Health Foundations emergency/disaster response, which will include the mitigation, preparation, response and recovery to any situation which may overwhelm Hamot Health Foundations resources and the ability to maintain routine operations in accordance with emergency preparedness standards established by regulating bodies, such as DOH, TJC, and Emergency Management Agency. To assure compliance with all government, accreditation and insurance requirements related to facilities and safety of health foundation personnel. To function as a liaison between Hamot Health Foundation and a variety of regulatory and inspecting agencies. Assist in Process Improvement and related management engineering function. To coordinate staff education programs for facilities management personnel.


  • Develops, compiles and maintains in an easily accessible format, all required documentation related to facilities, hazardous materials, staff training, etc. Oversees responses for hazardous spills (Hazmat), trains and supervises Hamot Hazardous Spill Team. Provides documentation to inspecting and accrediting agencies upon request.Assess and maintains the electronic Joint Commission Statement of Conditions and Plan for Improvement documentation. Responsible for filing Department of Health electronic submission of plan of correction for Life Safety inspections. Coordinates the completion of and documents all corrective repairs required to bring Hamot's facilities into compliance with various standards. Develops effective relationships with federal, state and local regulatory and accrediting agencies ensuring compliance with all required standards, codes and regulations impacting the organization. Coordinates and schedules all required and supplemental training sessions for facilities staff on equipment and systems to ensure regulatory compliance and optimum safety for patients, visitors and employees. Administrator for Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) database, fire extinguisher database and related life safety equipment and systems, scheduling service and inspections.
  • Chairs the medical center Environment of Care Committee relating to the six Joint Commission management plans. Serves as an active member of the medical center Safety Committee, TJC committees, tracer teams and other work groups as assigned. Works closely with Corporate Safety, Security, Facilities Engineering and Patient Safety & Quality departments. Demonstrates Hamot's commitment to service excellence by understanding the needs of patients, their families, physicians and co-workers and doing what is required the first time, every time by being responsible, sensitive, accurate, timely, coordinated and thorough.
  • Responsible for emergency preparedness and the emergency management plan within Hamot Health Foundation, which incorporates mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. Responds to all emergency plan activations on the Hamot campus. Facilitates training to meet established standards set by regulating bodies and identified needs to enhance mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. Tracks inventory of equipment necessary for emergency preparedness. Oversees the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant annual submission ($100,000) and quarterly reporting to the Department of Health.Commits to partnering with interagency and community resources involved with emergency management planning, including the building of collaborative relationships to enhance preparedness efforts. Responsible for EMS obligations and training regarding Stroke Accreditation, Cardiology / Chest Pain Council. Promotes collaborative linking with Emergency Medicine Services including educational programs and quality assurance review. Represents the Emergency Department on the Corporate Safety Committee and other committees as deemed appropriate.



  • Bachelors Degree in Healthcare or Related Field.
  • Two years of experience working with regulatory agencies in the healthcare field preferred.
  • Two years of experience with emergency preparedness standards preferred, as established by regulating bodies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills. Interpersonal skills and ability to work with internal and external partners/staff.
  • Knowledge of computer systems.
  • Familiarity with codes and regulations related to healthcare and healthcare facilities including TJC, NFPA and PA state regulations. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

This position typically reports to Director, Facilities Engineering.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • NIMS or equivalent Incident Command System certification
