Lead Security Agent Certified

This position will provide safety and security of patients, employees, visitors, and hospital buildings and assets. The lead certified security agent demonstrates positive performance, guidance and motivation in accordance with the hospital?s Mission, Vision and Core Values. The lead certified security agent preserves order and acts to enforce regulations and directives for the hospital pertaining to personnel, visitors, and premises. Builds, improves and maintains effective relationships with both client employees and guests. Expectations are in place to greet guests and employees in a cheerful and welcoming manner. Answers questions and assists guests and employees.


  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Daily contact with employees, patients, visitors and others. This contact may at times be under adverse circumstances (e.g. death, sickness, emotional or mental illness).
  • Maintains proficiency in the use of all assigned protective equipment, restraint devices and weapons
  • Maintains IAHSS Security Agent Certification (Basic, Advanced or Supervisory).
  • Enhances professional growth and developmental through completion of the IAHSS and/or ACT-235, participation in other educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
  • Monitors the security surveillance system including closed circuit television systems and alarms. Dispatches calls for service. Answers phones.
  • Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
  • Assists in providing additional shift coverage when needed or as required.
  • Provides escorts for individuals to the parking lot and buildings.
  • Controls and monitors parking and traffic flow. Enforces parking regulations.
  • Reports safety concerns, security breaches and unusual circumstances both verbally and in writing
  • Communicates efficiently and effectively with Security Supervisor as well as all hospital community partners.
  • Gives direction and assistance to patients, employees and visitors when requested.
  • Responsible for security and/or unlocking the facility to include offices, conference rooms, etc. within the building.
  • Controls access through the use of keys and proximity ID card readers to preclude unauthorized access to protected areas.
  • Records and safeguards evidence and found property.
  • Completes written reports using the department format. Written reports are accomplished for the following: daily activities, incidents (security/criminal), traffic and parking incidents, safety concerns, and other calls for service.
  • Responds to incidents of fire, medical emergency, bomb threat, flooding, water discharge, elevator emergency, hazardous materials, inclement weather, and other incidents.
  • Responds to non-emergency and emergency situations using the appropriate level of force up to and including armed response by following established guidelines.
  • May be required to relieve the agent assigned to the ED static position.
  • Contacts fire and/or police services when necessary.
  • When safe, the lead security agent will initiate mere encounters with persons on hospital property who are or are suspected to be unauthorized. The lead security agent will initiate a field interview with unauthorized individuals and take the appropriate action.
  • Monitors the conduct of all individuals introduced onto hospital property.
  • Makes periodic tours to check for irregularities and to inspect the hospital?s security infrastructure.
  • Conducts foot and vehicle patrols of the hospital buildings and grounds in order to reduce the possibility of a fire, theft, vandalism and unauthorized persons. Checks for unsafe conditions, hazards, unlocked doors, security or criminal violations.
  • Follows the established departmental plans, programs, policies and procedures, along with the quality assurance program and safety standards. Oversees assigned shift schedule and monitors security activities in assigned areas to ensure a secure and safe environment for staff, patients, and visitors. Inspects daily work assignments and conduct shift briefings/debriefings to ensure security agents comply with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.


  • High School DiplomaMinimum one (1) year work experience
  • IAHSS Basic CertificationPA Act 235 certification for armed security work
  • Valid Driver's License

Skills and Abilities:

  • Prior experience in physical security, military service, law enforcement or a related field

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Clearances must be dated within 90 days

  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
