Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the Occupational Health Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer, supervises and coordinates activities of employees performing various functions related to the activities of the Occupational Health Department. Manages the Employee Health program of Somerset Hospital and serves as Safety Officer of the Hospital.
Responsibilities:
- Supervises the employees and volunteers engaged in carrying out functions of the Occupational Health Department according to established hospital and departmental policies and practices
- Assists in the preparation of the annual operating and capital budget and supervises program activity within the budgetary framework.
- Assists in the development and annual review of departmental policy and procedure manual including review with personnel.
- Completes performance appraisals and competency evaluations according to established policies.
- Manages the Employee Health Program of Somerset Hospital including Case Management, pre-employment evaluations and medical surveillance programs.
- Acts as a liaison to community by representing the Occupational Health Department and Somerset Hospital at both company meetings and various activities relating to health care.
- Formulates goals and objectives for the Occupational Health Department and the Employee Health program of Somerset Hospital, which are consistent with the Hospital philosophy.
- Develops and presents in service education for the Occupational Health staff and area businesses.
- Provides timely communication to employees and businesses
- Actively markets the services of the Occupational Health Department to area businesses
- Oversee Hospital Infection Prevention program, surveillance, and mandatory reporting. Provide vacation/Holiday coverage for Hospital Infection Preventionist
- Based on standards of Occupational Health Nursing and the PA State Practice Acts, defines nursing authority and parameters of responsibilities for the Occupational Health Department.
- Determines appropriate staffing for services offered both on-site and off-site to assure delivery of quality services.
- Promotes health maintenance/ injury prevention programs, including educational programs, to area industry.
- Collaborates with other members of the Occupational Health team and members of area industries, to determine services needed by Occupational Health.
- Consults with healthcare providers to maintain a positive professional working relationship with Occupational Health.
- Develops, adheres to, exercises, and enforces departmental policies.
- Assumes responsibility for coordination of projects including medical surveillance and health promotional activities for area industry.
- Attends and participates in educational programs

- Demonstrates a knowledge and skill necessary to provide service and education appropriate to the individual (i .e. development and age)
- Participates in professional organizations
- Accomplishes established personal and departmental goals
Qualifications
- Graduate of a professional nursing program and RN licensure, BSN preferred
- Two years of full-time Occupational Health Nursing experience
- Current BLS certification
- Marketing experience
- Demonstrated teaching experience
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local safety and health regulations
- Skills in decision making, problem solving, independent nursing judgement, communication and broad knowledge base of general nursing skills
- Certification in Occupational Health Nursing, preferred
- Certification in Hearing Conservation and Spirometry, preferred
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Act 34
- Valid Driver's License
