Description

Purpose:
UPMC Clinical Genomics is hiring Project Manager role for their location at 5560 Centre Ave, Pittsburgh, PA. Great rewards with this Life Changing Medicine team including Monday - Friday flexible daylight shifts with potential for some remote working opportunities.  This position will manage daily multiple projects within a CAP/CLIA certified lab.  These encompass research and clinical projects.  Will work with Lab Management, Lab Technicians, and Bioinformaticians as well as external research investigators and physicians. We perform Next Generation Sequencing in addition to other types of testing.  Would be helpful to have knowledge about this type of work but not required.  This position will aid in fielding some technical questions from clients regarding project needs.   Growing lab. 



Responsibilities:

  • Cooperate closely with business leaders and/or relevant experts in resolving issues. Identify and mitigate business risks associated with projects. Define alternative/compromise solutions that address others' fundamental concerns and impacts on long-term relationships. Systematically convey pros and cons of alternative solutions to complex, sophisticated, and sensitive issues and achieve consensus on direction/ approach.
  • Analyze the training needs of project teams and identify relevant training material/ courses to address these needs.
  • Recognize and anticipate scope issues and communicate to internal client and team changes to the work plan.
  • Generate new perspectives, frameworks or innovations that enable problem resolution. Generate innovative ideas which are strategically sound and challenge the status quo.
  • Demonstrate ability to prepare sensitive information and communicate it directly to senior management.
  • Prioritize tasks based on relative importance and urgency and identify dependencies across projects. Recognize and act decisively in urgent matters; make tough decisions which may influence the direction of the project. Direct and execute creative analytic approaches/ create new or adapt existing analytical methods and tools to solve problems.
  • Anticipate and define barriers to change with internal client; devise plans to address change barriers and ensure acceptance of the change process.
  • Establish a mentoring environment.
  • Participate in and/or lead the comprehensive review of the projects being managed by other project managers; accurately assess project status and develop appropriate recommendations and assessment documents.
  • Plan, organize and control multiple responsibilities and solicit participation from cross-functional resources not under personal control and ensure that the most appropriate resources are assigned to specific project roles.
  • Plan and execute communication of complex information to team members and stakeholder groups.
  • Build follow-up mechanism/maintenance plan into project deliverables to ensure that changes to be implemented will be sustainable. Ensure business value has been delivered.
  • Dynamically lead presentations / work sessions to positively influence decisions and perceptions.
  • Define and develop overall project objectives, scope and work plan and review and confirm with internal client. Many of these projects will initially lack concrete definition and will involve complex and politically sensitive matters.
  • Anticipate key business and project issues, assess alternatives, and take appropriate measures to resolve in a professional, tactful manner, implementing comprehensive recommendations to achieve desired outcome.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Mathematics, statistics, Health Care, Management, or related field. Master's degree preferred (extensive related experience will be considered).
  • Five (5) years of project management experience. Project Management Professional certification preferred. Experience in health care insurance or health care industry preferred.
  • Experience with labs, science, and clinical health care preferred 
  • Excellent computer skills required, including Access, Excel, Microsoft Project, and other pertinent computer software packages. Strong management, problem solving, organizational, and communication skills (oral and written) are required.
  • Excellent Project Management skills along with effective planning and organizational skills. Ability to perform planning for large initiatives/projects, managing all tasks required to provide services to meet client and business needs within budget and targeted deadlines.
