Across UPMC, our guiding principle is to always prioritize the safety of our employees, patients, and members. UPMC believes that vaccination is important, helps protect all, and advocates that everyone who can be vaccinated should be vaccinated.

UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

To perform mechanical maintenance duties to maintain buildings and equipment in optimum condition



  • Maintains effective communication with Facilities Engineering, contractors, vendors and other medical center personnel.
  • Performs welding, brazing, soldering or pipe welding required on Medical Center equipment. Fabricates, lays out and designs parts when needed for emergencies or as otherwise needed or assigned.
  • Performs mechanical maintenance and repair on kitchen equipment, housekeeping equipment, beds, addessographs, wheelchairs, stretchers and other related medical center equipment.
  • Instructs and assists new employees working in the maintenance department in the proper repair and safe use of equipment and facilities. Conducts inservices monthly on related equipment for other personnel.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the field and actively partakes in related training and educational programs.
  • Repairs and maintains all gauges, thermometers, scales and other indicating/recording pieces of equipment such as thermostats, controllers, valves, regulators, oxygen, compressed air and medical gas outlets, etc.
  • Maintains inventory of spare parts for wheelchairs, stretchers, medical gasses, bolts, nuts, etc. for equipment covered under areas of responsibility. Advises the supervisor of equipment and materials required to keep the medical center and its entities operating effectively. Responsible for the care and maintenance for all assigned Hamot tools and equipment.



  • High School graduate or equivalent with two years of vocational training
  • Five years of related experience.
  • Two additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of formal training.
  • Must be able to read schematic drawings and blueprints
  • Must be able to demonstrate proper safety procedures throughout the medical center.
  • May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored.
  • No contact with medications is allowed.
