*This position will be approximately a 1-year TEMP need*
Purpose:
The maintenance engineer is responsible for operation, troubleshooting, testing and repair of the hospital's steam plant, steam distribution system, HVAC systems, chiller plant and chilled water distribution system, heating hot water distribution system, the pneumatic tube transport system, and refrigeration equipment. The maintenance engineer is also the first response for maintenance issues on the off-shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Responsibilities:
- Operates, maintain, test, troubleshoots, and repairs medical air and medical vacuum systems.
- Responsible for setting-up appropriate level of infection control containment (ICRA) based on risk level and maintaining the integrity of that containment.
- Responsible for 24/7 coverage for the entire hospital. Responsible for investigating all equipment and operational problems on off-shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Investigate, schedule, and plan service outages (including emergencies) when necessary for repair, alteration or additions to systems while not compromising safety or operation of facility operations.
- Operates, maintain, test, troubleshoots, and repairs high pressure steam system and hot water boilers as well as the steam plant.
- Operates, maintain, test, troubleshoots, and repairs the building management (DDC) system.
- Operates, maintain, test, troubleshoots, and repairs HVAC equipment to maintain proper environmental conditions.
- Perform all work following infection control procedures; maintain clean and safe work areas, equipment rooms and shop areas.
- Operates, maintain, test, troubleshoots, and repairs the pneumatic tube transport system.
- Responsible for medical gas inventory and deliveries. Record work orders and submit hours to supervisor on a daily basis.
- Responsible for testing, treatment, monitoring, logging/tracking and adjustment of chemical treatment of steam boilers, cooling towers and closed hot water and chilled water systems.
- Operates, maintain, test, troubleshoots, and repairs refrigeration equipment, including ice machines and water coolers.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required. Any combination of two (2) years trade school background or three (3) years experience working as a stationary engineer or an HVAC mechanic is required. Building management system (DDC) knowledge preferred. Previous healthcare experience preferred
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Driver?s License. City of Pittsburgh Stationary Engineer License is preferred. EPA Universal Refrigerant License is preferred.
