UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is currently hiring a full-time Office Assistant I to provide support to our Mountain View Medical Park location in Greensburg, PA. This will be a Monday-Friday daylight position but it will require overtime on a regular basis - the candidate may need to come in early or stay late depending on the patient volumes and schedules. The schedule can range from 7:30am -6:00 pm. Some local travel may be required to provide coverage at different sites on an as needed basis.
The Office Assistant position is not one dimensional, it will require someone who is willing to be flexible and able to perform a multitude of different tasks including but not limited to: greeting patients, registration of patients, check in, check out, collecting co-payments, scheduling appointments, working in the chart room prepping charts, scanning documents, retrieving and sending faxes, answering phones, and obtaining authorizations. This individual will also be assisting customers in person and on the phone, providing information, and communicating with various departments.

Responsibilities:
- Verify necessary information and records in the medical record and computerized scheduling system.
- Schedule, coordinate, and reschedule patient's appointments. Relay necessary messages to staff and providers.
- Greet and register patients in a polite, prompt, helpful manner. Provide any necessary instructions/directions. Inform appropriate department/person of person's arrival performing appropriate check-in and check-out functions.
- Maintain clean, orderly waiting area including beverage area and reading materials.
- Prepare patient charts for upcoming appointments.
- Answer telephone, screens calls, takes messages, and provides information.
- Maintain and update current information on physician's schedules ensuring that patients are scheduled properly and appointments are confirmed.
- Complete necessary paperwork such as encounter forms and referrals. Use computer system to generate information necessary for billing.
- Answer questions regarding patient appointments and testing.
- Complies with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
- Utilize appropriate modules of the automated financial management system for scheduling, information verification, entering charges, co-payment collection/ reconciliation and other tasks.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- 1 year work experience, preferably in a medical office setting.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Word processing and computer experience preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Act 34
