UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. Description

The Child Life Specialist Coordinator reports to the Manager of the Child life Department. Coordinates the DREAM BIG STUDIO Program ( Closed Circuit TV Broadcasting studio ) in Child Life consistent with the values, mission, strategic plan and financial objectives of Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. Responsible for providing developmentally appropriate programming which optimizes growth and development of children, supports and maintains normalcy and minimizes psychosocial issues, when applicable.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Provides studio tours and information sessions for new staff orientation and prospective donors and volunteers
  • Collaborates with Manager, CEAT Program Coordinator, Special Event Coordinators, child life and other hospital staff in the ongoing content development and identification of events and guests visits to be broadcast; handles execution of program set-up, pre-production, and productions for those broadcasts as assigned.
  • Troubleshoots technical issues and informs Manager of any new equipment or supply orders needed
  • Identifies areas for patient education and interactivity in programming and promotes those to patients, families and department staff
  • Works directly with patients and families in participation and engagement in UPMC Children?s Hospital of Pittsburgh?s Dream Big Studio studio
  • Facilitates training of all interns and program volunteers; serves as day to day adviser on content standards and practices, show content, equipment use and studio/hospital policies
  • Tracks broadcasting studio statistics, number of callers, number of units, etc. and provides reports to the Manager and Director upon request
  • Maintains content library and archives original programming of UPMC Children?s Hospital of Pittsburgh?s broadcasting studio
  • Serve as on air ?talent? as needed for live and pre recorded programming
  • Use media as a tool for legacy building. Discuss death, bereavement, loss and related issues with patients, siblings and families when appropriate.
  • Provide media outlets for supervised individual or group programming and/or processing, which encourages self expression of feelings and promote a sense of mastery and understanding of healthcare experiences.
  • Maintain an environment which is safe, supportive and developmentally based.
  • Communicate developmentally appropriate explanations regarding medical encounters to patients and families, through video therapy and other media outlets.
  • Responsible for ordering and supervising the processing of all supplies and equipment for the Dream Big Studio and maintains the budget.
  • Formulate and administer program policies, procedures, and goals which support the mission of the Dream Big Studio, the Child Life Department and the hospital.
  • Provide educational programs for patients, families, staff and the community.

 

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Child Life, Child Development, Child and Family Studies, Psychology or a related health care field.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience working with children in a hospital and/or Child Life setting.
  • Analytical ability necessary to formulate policies and procedures, assess staff and program needs and outcomes, organize people and materials, compile and analyze data, maintain the budget, etc. Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with hospital personnel, children and families, community groups and organizations.
  • Supervisory ability to organize, direct, control and evaluate the activities and performance of the non-exempt staff, students and volunteers working in the Sibling Center

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Certified Child Life Counselor
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
