UPMC Health Plan has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Visual Information Graphic Design Specialist to support the Marketing Communications Department. This is a Monday through Friday daylight position.  The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work from home.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Creative Strategy, the Visual Information Design Specialist will be responsible for creating data visualization designs. This will include communications that conceptualize subject matter ranging from ideation of industry organization and workflow, to disease management and condition hotspots. These communications will be geared to a wide range of audiences. The purpose of the designed material will be to make information accessible and understandable in a format that is both functional and beautiful. This includes deliverables that involve product charts, statistics, infographics, and presentation materials.

The person in this highly visible position will collaborate with the Marketing, Strategy, Data, and Product teams. He or she will also work directly with executive leadership to design information graphics for both internal and external use. The Visual Design Specialist must be able to design against multiple brands and maintain the guidelines of each property within both print and digital applications. This person will also assist the visual communication designer as needed on presentation materials for Sales, Marketing, and Request for Proposal opportunities. The candidate must have a strong portfolio that showcases his or her design skills and the ability to create iconography that express complex financial, technical, retail, or data/technology concepts.


  • Collaborate with C-Suite executives to creative sophisticated, engaging presentations.
  • As necessary, creates customized infographics for insertion into Executive, Sales, Marketing, and finalist presentations for Request for Proposal
  • Ensure that delivered content achieves visual, quality, and timeliness requirements.
  • Provide design assistance for any other duties as assigned.
  • Use advanced design/illustration skills to develop custom graphic assets that convey complex information in chart, graph, logo, icon, or infographic format.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of animation techniques to build engaging presentation graphics that are timed to a written script and presentation speech.
  • Use the existing digital asset management system and file structures to maintain organized project files for archival/retrieval purposes.
  • Follow and maintain multiple brand guidelines and ensure that distinct and recognized design patterns are upheld across a diverse portfolio of insurance and technical products.
  • Work well in a fast-paced, highly demanding, diverse corporate business environment.


  • Bachelor's degree in studio art, graphic design, illustration, visual communication, new media, or related disciplines.
  • Seven to 10 years of working experience in a customer service or agency setting creating information graphics for executive leadership within strategic communication materials.
  • Ability to understand and translate between the business and technical communities through visual design.
  • Experience collaborating with business executives in leadership roles.
  • Expert in Adobe Creative Cloud products (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.).
  • Possess high-end infographic portfolio.
  • Expert in creating professional slide presentations using both Prezi and Microsoft PowerPoint Effective communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Health care experience required (consumer/retail/technology/insurance experience preferred).
  • Innovative thinker with a passion for learning new visual information design techniques.
