Workforce Project Manager

The Workforce Project Manager will work collaboratively with a team of Ophthalmology professionals to manage curriculum, build custom training programs, identify, and pilot innovative trainings and/or services, and accomplish the growth of solutions-based strategies that provide development and support of workforce talent to the UPMC Vision and Rehabilitation UPMC Ophthalmology practice in the Western Pennsylvania area. The Manager will assist in strengthening relationships/partnerships with the Vision Rehabilitation Tower workforce, UPMC Talent Acquisition team, build talent pipelines, and offer support and guidance to all prospective candidates. The manager will be responsible for all aspects of project management and workforce development and training, including planning, implementation, communication and marketing, outreach, and assisting with data collection, input, analysis, and budget management.

Ability to grow with expanding training programs.  The incumbent will work with the leadership team to develop training for ophthalmic personnel with a focus on marketing, outreach, and assisting with data collection, input, analysis, and budget management. Primary Monday - Friday daylight unless there are community events that are off hours. Travel will be required between UPMC Mercy and other satalite offices. 


  • Understand, identify and anticipate the diverse needs of business & industry (soft-skills, workforce & technical).
  • Create, develop, and adapt competency-based training and assessment for student and adult learners.
  • Assist in sourcing, recruiting, establishing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with a significant pool of training/education/consulting professionals.
  • Research and recommend new programs and services that have potential to increase enrollment of trainees.
  • Manage marketing communications and scheduling of training programs and courses.
  • Develop detailed project plans including key performance indicators, activities, timelines and action items.
  • Manage multiple projects according to plan to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget, including: Assist with NIH T32 training program application and data collection Assist with coordination of Hillman Scholars summer internship program
  • Conduct project meetings including taking meeting notes, communicating assignments and monitoring progress.
  • Coordinate workforce development and educational events hosted in or by the VRT.
  • Coordinate, host, and/or attend recruitment events and interview/information sessions.
  • Conduct employment screening interviews for external applicants, of all levels and types of positions, including management.
  • Represent Ophthalmology and the VRT at various training, civic, educational, and professional meetings.
  • Compare candidate qualifications with documented, objective criteria consistent with the job description to refer to our Talent Acquisition team across the organization.
  • Act as an advocate to candidates for resume assistance, interview preparation and job navigation. Provide feedback and coaching to candidates, members and community partners.



  • Bachelor's degree in business, mathematics, statistics, health care, management, or related business field required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Four years of related work experience. Experience in health care insurance or health care industry preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills required, including Access, Excel, Microsoft Project, and other pertinent computer software packages. Strong management, problem solving, organizational, and communication skills (oral and written) are required.
  • Excellent Project Management skills along with effective planning and organizational skills. Ability to perform planning for large initiatives/projects, managing all tasks required to providing services to meet client and business needs within budget and targeted deadlines.
  • Organization, Microsoft Office, Competency based training, Customer service, and experience in an ophthalmology practice preferred
