Lead Transporter

Description

UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a Full-time Lead Transporter to support the EnvironmentalServices Transport department!

This position will work Sunday and Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Hours are subject to change based on business needs.

The Lead Transporter coordinates the daily activities of the department, including assisting with employee training and performance assessment. They also supervise the transporters in the movement of patients and equipment to and from assigned areas, and assists to facilitate complaint resolution.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the monthly in-services for the department with the Manager.
  • Maintain control, location, and inspection of wheelchairs and/or stretchers.
  • Coordinate and assist with the evaluations and training of all personnel in the area of responsibility.
  • Perform all duties of Transport position as outlined in job title Enhanced Transporter.
  • Report any and all problems and suggestions to the Shift Supervisor.
  • Ensure that the daily work of all team members is completed and ensure that they go to their assigned locations.
  • Develop an open working relationship with unit personnel and Supervisors.
  • In the absence of the Shift Supervisor or Dispatcher, temporarily act in a supervisory or dispatch capacity; assume the responsibilities of these individuals.
  • Assist Supervisors with monthly system-wide competencies on existing staff.
  • Maintain a courteous professional demeanor and communicate appropriately with patients, visitors, hospital personnel, and fellow employees always.

 

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED or 1-year previous job experience in lieu of High School or GED.
  • Previous Transporter experience required.
  • Knowledgeable about all safety, universal precaution, fire, evacuation, emergency care, and disaster policies and procedures.
  • Knowledgeable of all transporter responsibilities and hospital layout.
  • Requires the ability to follow written and verbal instructions in order to successfully complete Transport duties and the ability to use transport equipment.
  • The ability to handle multiple demands in high-stress and emergency situations is required.
  • Prior work experience is preferred.
  • Prior experience with the patient transportation system is preferred.
  • Prior customer service experience preferred.
  • The ability to communicate professionally with various user groups is required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 34
