Sr. Professional Staff Nurse -- Heart Cath Lab (Includes On-Call)

Description

UPMC Presbyterian is currently hiring a full time Sr. Professional Staff Nurse to support the Heart Catheterization Lab. Our Heart Cath Lab is a specialty procedural department that is in the classification of critical care nursing/patient acuity. Our work involves direct catheterization to the vessels of the heart. Our nurses directly assist the Interventional Cardiologist and circulate the procedural room assisting in patient care during the procedure. Our nurses are responsible for conscious sedation for the patient and assessment of the patient throughout the procedure. They are responsible for documentation of patient care. RNs are required, with proper shielding, to work around fluoroscopy (radiation). Our department places a strong emphasis on team building and we lead successful teams as part of our daily practice!

In this role, you will work 10-hour shifts/4 days per week. Regular operating hours during the week are 7AM-5:30PM. You will be required to take on-call on a rotating basis- 1-2 nights per week and intermittent weekends.

The Professional Staff Nurse is a valued step in the UPMC nursing career ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement; salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Applies the nursing process within the framework of Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment. Formulates daily goals and a plan of care for patients that involves the patient as partner and considers the individual needs of the patient in a holistic manner.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking in the identification of clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues for the patient within an episode of care.
  • Practices solid communication skills and can articulate and translate the patient's condition to other care providers and to negotiate and make recommendations for changes in patient care and unit practices. Patient documentation is comprehensive and promotes communication between caregivers.
  • Creates a caring and compassionate patient-focused experience by building healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Incorporates national professional organization as well as business unit and health system goals to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years nursing experience required.
  • Experience in Cardiology or ICU preferred.
  • BSN preferred, but not required.
  •  For Sr. level: Must maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on annual performance evaluation to maintain status.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • ACLS within 12 months of beginning employment
  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse either in the state where the facility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the state where the facility is located.
  • UPMC approved nursing certification preferred.
  • Annual completion of 2 professional contributions selected from department, hospital or system goals, and approved by your Unit Director OR certification and 1 professional contribution selected from department, hospital or system goals, and approved by your Unit Director as set forth through UPMC's My Nursing Career Ladder. Certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 34
