UPMC is hiring a full-time Community Relations Coordinator to support the Community Relations department within the Community Care Behavioral Health business unit. This will be a Monday through Friday daylight role that will also require some evening and weekend hours for events/programs. This position will be based out of our Camp Hill location. This is a hybrid role within the Capital Region, with some remote/work-from-home privileges, some travel within the communities and some travel to the office for meetings/department needs. The individual must be comfortable with travel to various, diverse locations.

Experience in behavioral health, mental health, drug and alcohol systems within the Capital Region is preferred. Comfortability with public speaking is also preferred.

The Community Relations Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of Community Care's outreach, education, and prevention efforts to HealthChoices members, families, and stakeholders. The Community Relations Coordinator develops outreach and education strategies and activities with the full intention of providing members and families with information and assistance that will eliminate and reduce barriers to behavioral health care services. The Community Relations Coordinator records and archives the comments, suggestions, and feedback from consumers, members, families, and community stakeholders via Community Care's advisory committees and other consumer/stakeholder feedback vehicles.

The incumbent uses the feedback and comments from these venues to assist in the development of Community Care's outreach strategy and focus for its outreach plan and service plan development. These educational efforts support the company's goal of making high-quality, cost -effective services readily availableto its members and families, and in the company's quality improvement efforts.The Community Relations Coordinator is responsible for developing and maintaining positive relationships with members, families, advocates, providers and other interested stakeholders in the Capital HealthChoices community.

The incumbent represents Community Care in venues concerned with community education, outreach, and prevention, and develops liaison efforts with its members, families, community stakeholders, and targeted populations. The Community Relations Coordinator will also be responsible for assisting in the implementation of recovery and resiliency focused programs and initiatives for Community Care in the Capital Region. The incumbent is responsible for working with Community Care's recovery programs team in their efforts to implement new programs, assist, and work with existing staff to support programs that have already been put in place, represent Community Care at various stakeholder meetings and be an ambassador for both Community Care and for its recovery initiatives. The Community Relations Coordinator reports to the Associate Regional Director for administrative supervision and direction, and will work with the management of Community Care's recovery programs in assisting with its recovery initiatives and programs, and for direction in carrying out its program objectives. The incumbent serves as a liaison for Community Care and represents Community Care in venues concerned with member education, outreach, prevention, recovery initiatives and develops liaison efforts with its members, families, providers, community stakeholders, and consumer coalitions in conjunction with the Associate Regional Director.



Responsibilities:

  • Meets as required with the Associate Regional Director and co-workers to evaluate, develop, plan, implement and monitor recovery services as assigned.
  • Ability to form and maintain relationships with members of the provider community, consumer/member community, and the advocacy community.
  • Independent problem-solving ability where decisions are based on knowledge of the provider network, community resources including agencies, self-help groups, physical and behavioral health providers, non -traditional community resources, etc.; and understanding of member services policies; members' rights and responsibilities, and the operating practices of the organization.
  • Assists in the implementation of recovery and resiliency focused programs and initiatives for Community Care in the NorthWest 9 counties.
  • Conduct educational, service needs assessments, and satisfaction surveys for the provider network and consumer/member community in collaboration with management staff, providers, consumer/members, and community stakeholders as needed.
  • Facilitate resolution of provider, consumer or community stakeholder concerns by gathering important information obtained during events related to training, education, and outreach activities, and forwards that information and feedback to appropriate personnel at Community Care for review or action.
  • Effective teaching skills and thorough understanding of education and training theory as reflected in course development and content of training sessions.
  • Responsiveness to deadlines with work completed on or before deadlines.
  • Participate in the identification, development, coordination and provision of educational activities to consumer/members, families, and community stakeholders under the direction of the Associate Regional Director.
  • Assists and participates in the training and education of members, providers, and company staff regarding recovery-oriented programs and services under the direction of senior recovery management.
  • Ability to propose and implement creative solutions to identified problems and outreach strategies. Working knowledge of the stakeholder groups in the community, including familiarity with local neighborhoods and non -traditionally funded and staffed community based organizations.
  • Assist in the maintenance of relationships with regional and community advocacy groups such as National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI), Mental Health Association (MHA), Community Support Programs (CSP), Pennsylvania Mental Health Consumers Association (PMHCA), consumer advocacy, and community stakeholder groups.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Coordinate, develop, and deliver educational presentations and training to providers, state and federal agencies, members, families, community groups and other parties in collaboration with appropriate Community Care management and front line staff.
  • Maintain a basic understanding of Community Care member benefits and remains current on covered benefits, limitations, exclusions, and policies and procedures, with respect to Community Care services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a social service related field with emphasis on counseling, training, or education and at least 3 years experience in behavioral health field OR combination of community organization and behavioral health advocacy experience.
  • Master's preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of both traditionally staffed and funded and non-traditional community based service providers and programs.
  • Must be familiar with and comfortable performing in culturally diverse communities.
  • Requires self-initiative and the ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of public agencies and population served.
  • Detail-oriented
  • Proficient in Microsoft office products.
  • Must be able to independently lift, load, unload, push, and transport by hand cart materials weighing at least 40 pounds.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, and report-writing skills.
  • Must have reliable transportation and be available to travel independently to various regional communities and other venues as assigned.
  • Must be available for evening, weekend, and out of town assignments as needed.
  • Managed care and public sector care delivery experience preferred.
