Research Associate (The Affective Neuroscience and Developmental Psychopathology Lab)

Description

The Affective Neuroscience and Developmental Psychopathology Lab is a dynamic, busy clinical neuroscience lab with a team atmosphere and a culture of respect and inclusivity. The mission is meaningful and important: to reduce suffering by investigating the brain mechanisms relevant to the pathophysiology and treatment of depression, suicidality, and related problems in adolescents and young adults. The several ongoing studies include a variety of techniques, including neuroimaging, neuromodulation, ambulatory monitoring, and pharmacologic manipulation. The Research Associate (RA) will be working directly with adolescents and young adults in neuroscience research related to mental health. This could include phone screening, scheduling, diagnostic interviewing, administering questionnaires, accompanying to MRI scans, administering neuromodulation (with training/approval), and dealing with clinical issues that arise. The RA would work in a team environment and would cooperate and coordinate closely with other lab staff, with faculty, and with the staff of centers such as the WPH sleep and neurobehavioral center and the Presby MRI Research Center.

This position is grant funded.

Responsibilities:

  • Contact and schedule potential participants from a designated pool of individuals who have agreed to be contacted for research studies.
  • Conduct subject searches to locate subjects who are unable to be contacted.
  • Explain research protocol and obtain informed consent from participants.
  • Conduct on-line and/or library searches as needed by the PI as necessary.
  • Perform phone interviews for research project protocol(s) as needed.
  • Maintain and update subject information database.
  • Conduct interviews with research participants under supervision as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Counseling, Sociology or related research field or current enrollment in a related Bachelor's Degree program with direct experience in a research environment required.
  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required.
  • Prior related work experience in a research setting preferred.
  • Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with MRI research preferred.
  • Work or volunteering experience with adolescents preferred.
  • Work or volunteering background in clinical setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with data analysis in R and SPSS preferred.
