Description

UPMC Hampt is hiring a Lab Assistant for their facility! This position will be required to work 2nd shift from 1:45pm to 10:15pm and will be required to work rotating holidays and weekends.

Purpose:
Work with the Urinalysis, Blood Bank or Histology staff to prepare specimens/tissues for analysis in specific areas of the laboratory. Duties and responsibilities will vary depending on what location of the lab you will be working in.

Responsibilities:

 

  • May perform centrifugation of specimens and reprinting of labels.
  • Assists with specimen/slide storage and retrieval.
  • Performs QA/QC procedures as assigned.
  • Follows all PPE requirements and all safety regulations.
  • Investigate and resolve pending lists.
  • Receiving and sorting of specimens.
  • Decontaminates work area.
  • Performs routine and basic instrument maintenance. Record temperatures if required.
  • Prepare specimens at workstations for testing. Includes building worklists, checking specimens for acceptability (clots) aliquotting specimens, loading/unloading specimens onto instrument and slide preparations.
  • Must maintain competency in all areas assigned.
  • Assists with answering the phone. Inquires in the computer for specimen status and reports findings. Directs caller to appropriate person if unable to answer question.
  • Prepare reagents if required.
  • Assists with restocking supplies and keeping supply area neat and clean.
  • Uses the laboratory computer system(s) as deemed necessary for job.

 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have the ability to establish work priorities and handle several procedures simultaneously.
  • Must interact well with other depts.
