Description
Purpose:
The Safety Sitter works to observe and provide appropriate diversion activities for the patient at the direction of the RN responsible for the patient.
Responsibilities:
- Incorporate leading/evidence-based practice in quality/safety into everyday work. Commit to high-quality, safe work; encourage others to have similar standards. Identify processes/systems that could lead to inefficient practices, unsafe conditions, errors, or adverse events. Avoid shortcuts to ensure quality and safety measures are not circumvented. Encourage patient and family involvement in processes involving patient safety. Speak up with other service partners to ensure high quality and safety. Report serious events/incidents per policy.
- Improve the patient experience through the use of a rounding routine.
- Actively practice behaviors associated with SH Service Excellence expectations. Smile at and greet everyone enthusiastically, treat everyone with respect, dignity, and C.A.R.E.2. Be an ambassador for Susquehanna Health. Provide the best C.A.R.E.2 for our patients no matter what.
- Reports any activity outside of established parameters to assigned RN.
- Assume responsibility for personal development and education.
- Provides diversion activities to the patient as needed to assure safety.
- Works under the direction of the RN to observe patient behavior and maintain patient safety and communicate information by hospital policies and procedures.
- Know and follow all organizational/departmental policies/procedures.
- Maintains an uninterrupted line of sight with the patient at all times.
- Provides comfort measures to the patient as needed to assure safety; e.g. additional pillow placement, drink of water as appropriate, repositioning of extremities on request, etc.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent Required
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
