UPMC Corporate Services is currently hiring for a full-time Manager, Occupational Health (RN) to coordinate the [email protected] operation at UPMC Altoona.  This position will work Monday through Friday daylight hours.

The Manager in this position will be a member of the [email protected] department that services UPMC Altoona employees.  This position requires administrative expertise in program administration, development, and oversight of programs across levels of care in UPMC Employee Health [email protected] Services.   Responsibilities require knowledge of administrative processes, budget, personnel, and regulatory issues as they relate to Employee Health.  The Manager, Occupational Health with oversee two staff members.


  • Working knowledge of ADA and EEOC guidelines as they relate to the pre-placement medical evaluation process.
  • Coordinates clinic operations to provide new hire evaluations. This includes reviewing the questionnaires and coordinating any clinical laboratory services performed (i.e. TB skin testing, phlebotomy immunizations, etc.).
  • Knowledge of database systems, including reporting processes and data manipulation with MS Excel.
  • Assists in the coordination and provision of [email protected] services which include but are not limited to: Obtaining vital signs, reviewing medication history, assisting provider with medical treatments, using telehealth equipment where applicable, and engaging staff regarding appropriate lifestyle, condition management programs, health promotion activities, and other available services.
  • Assist in the coordination of medical surveillance programs. Examples of these programs include TB skin testing programs, respiratory testing programs and specific exposure related testing and/or surveillance initiatives.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing coverage for clinic operations.Assumes responsibility for supporting cost containment of the program.Maintains confidentiality of all medical information, and appropriately documents interventions and treatment with the medical records.
  • Supports quality improvement and service oriented initiatives of the organization.Assumes responsibility for supporting cost containment of the Employee Health operation.
  • Performs phlebotomy, substance abuse testing, and immunizations (IM, Sub Q, Intradermal), and other medical testing
  • Responsible for all site specific employee health / MyHealth activities including program regulatory compliance, department reporting, participation on relevant committees (i.e. Safety, Infection Control, Operations, etc.)
  • Orchestrates and oversees staff to ensure complete and appropriate interventions are implemented and completed for employee infectious disease exposures and/or Bloodborne pathogen exposures.
  • Primary resource for the provision of both direct and indirect employee health service care for pre-placement medical evaluations, medical surveillance programs, and occupational exposures and injuries.
  • Performs supervisory responsibilities for clinic staff and also completion of performance reviews and or corrective action measures in accordance with human resource policy/guidelines.
  • Integrates with UPMC and Hospital Division for the efficient provision of services.Provides education and counseling to staff members on clinic interventions and procedures.Liaison for the employee health department with other various departments as needed, including for example: Human Resources, Infection Control, Safety and Hospital Administration.
  • Coordinates clinic efforts to ensure compliance with legislative bodies (i.e. JCAHO, Department of Health, etc.) and site specific regulatory testing and requests.
  • Orchestrates and coordinates staff for the provision of new hire evaluations, tuberculin screening, vaccination programs, and exposure management programs
  • Input data and tests, including all services provided, into the employee health software database program for coordination and tracking and is also responsible for site specific reporting.


  • Registered Nurse with current Pennsylvania licensure
  • Minimum 5-7 years clinical experience.
  • BSN preferred, or equivalent professional and/or educational experience.
  • Previous occupational medicine/employee health experience required (COHN, or COHN-S preferred).
  • Supervisory or management experience in clinical environment required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 34
