Description
This position offers an opportunity to interact with Senior Leadership and understand UPMC’s various business processes, offering a gateway for advancement and mobility within UPMC. In this role, you will lead Financial Compliance’s Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) internal controls team and be responsible for leading other compliance and control initiatives across the organization. As part of this role, you will understand UPMC’s various in-scope SOX processes, design and test SOX internal controls and report on SOX program activities through quarterly reporting. Additionally, you will assist in Financial Compliances annual risk assessment process, provide audit support to various UPMC teams during the audit process and prepare deliverables updating management on audit status. Finally, your expertise will be called upon to assist with process performance improvement, policy development and other ad hoc projects that will transform UPMC and create visibility with Senior Leadership.

Responsibilities:

Develops risks assessments and prioritizes initiatives that comprise the basis of UPMC’s annual SOX plan.

Oversees the day-to-day operations and project management of UPMC’s SOX program, which includes leading efforts to refresh SOX process documentation on an annual basis and coordinates the design, implementation and testing of SOX controls for UPMC’s various business process and IT controls.

Prepares reporting around Financial Compliance activities such as audit progress and open deliverables and quarterly reporting on internal control compliance.

Responsible for maintaining UPMC balance sheet reconciliation IT system and provides quarterly reporting on compliance with UPMC’s balance sheet reconciliation procedure guide.

Trains, supervises and manages the performance of Financial Compliance personnel including the establishment of performance standards, objectives and annual reviews, which must be completed in a timely manner. Will formally supervise a minimum of two FTE's.

Identifies performance improvement opportunities and coordinates with relevant parties during the project implementation process

Leads administrative tasks, special projects and training programs as assigned.

Acts a liaison for the department in meetings with management and/or internal/external auditors

Leads the coordination of several different internal/external audits and provides support as needed.

Develops analyses and reports to support system-wide finance executives. Prepares detailed analyses for annual audit.

Assists with statutory compliance (i.e. NAIC insurance and Uniform Guidance audits).

Assists in the development of accounting and other policies, designs resources to promote compliance and performs tests to assess policy compliances.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting or related business field required.

A Master's degree or CPA license and four years of experience will also be considered.

Minimum of five years of related work experience required.

CPA/MBA preferred.

Prior experience leading/supervising staff preferred.

Experience with ACL, or Microsoft Access is preferred. Experience with large data sets is preferred.

Experience with process flow charts and narratives is strongly preferred.

Public accounting experience is strongly preferred.

Auditing public filers and knowledge of PCAOB regulations is preferred.

Knowledge of IT systems and IT system auditing is preferred.

Microsoft Office spreadsheet application required and PeopleSoft General Ledger proficiency preferred.
